In cars with no distributor you normally have one or more bobbins also called coils. Check if you get spark in some spark plugs or if you get no sparks at all. Some cars tend to get this problem when the computer also called Engine Control Module (ECM) Engine Control Unit (ECU).

There isn't a distributor cap on this vehicle as it is a distributor less ignition system and therefore it has only a coil pack.

This could be either you battery, starter or alternator. When you turn you key do you hear anything when if wont start? If you don't, then it's the battery or battery cables. If you hear a click each time regardless, check your starter or alternator

The alternator has nothing to do with starting a car. Its job is to recharge the battery and keep up with the electrical demand while the engine is running.

My 1995 intrepid es tries to start, and sometimes it will, but only a few seconds. seems like if you let it sit a little while it will run a couple seconds then quit.

possibly the fuel pump. here's a hint for code reading on a intrepid older than a 96. put the key in the ignition and turn in on without starting the engine. in this order

ON
OFF
ON
OFF
ON

then leave it in the on position. the check engine light will start flashing a mourse code at you. count them. all codes should be read as double digits. so if it blinks three times then pauses and blinks another four the code is 34. and the code reading will end at 55. write down the numbers and look them up.

I have a 96 dodge intrepid 3.5 and it has intermittent spark. tries to start but just won't

Change plugs and wires, also check coil. Take a plug out, reattach to wire, and place threads of plug on block, or other ground, then have someone start it, and see if you get a good strong spark, if so, everythings ok, if not, replace plugs wires or coil

My 1994 dodge intrepid only starts when it is above 40 degrees

I had a very similar problem as most did on this stalling out, no start, and no spark on my 1994 Dodge Intrepid 3.3L V6. I was told to watch my Tachometer in the car to see if it moved at all while cranking the engine over. It did not move. So that told me the crankshaft sensor was not picking up any signal what so ever. I changed it. The engine immediately started. So I left the engine run for approx. 25 minutes then the engine died. I had again lost spark but had minor RPM on the tachometer during engine crank. I dug thru all the wiring harnesses and found that when I moved the connector to the Coil pack/Module the engine would start. I got the problem narrowed down to the connector but have not replaced it yet. I put a little slack in the harness the wires run in so the harness is not pulling on the connector. This has seemed to solve the problem for me. At least for now. richmond980@yahoo.com
