Check the timing with timing light.. also if you have alot of miles on it, the timing chain may be worn out..take the dist cap off..use socket on crankshaft, turn to left till rotor turn, then slowly turn to the right, if you move it alot before rotor turns the chain is worn out

Will an engine bought from a 1999 Silverado originally sold outside of California pass California emissions

There are two type of emission classes.

Federal and California emissions.

Look under the hood for the emission class sticker.
Smog check station's machine in CA are programmed to handle both types.

You do not need to change anything before the inspection.

==== Side notes: You should check the service record for the last Catalytic converter,O2 sensors and EGR valve change.
Service interval for
Catalytic ~180,000 miles O2 ~150,000 miles EGR ~160,000 miles

If you can locate the last smog test (even from out of state) Check for the
CO NOx

I need to buy a new carburetor but i dont know what carb to order its for a 1984 ford ranger its a single cab with automatic trans and v-6 engine dose anyone know what carb i need to order ? thanks for...

The 1986 Ranger V-6 was a 2.8L 170.4 cu or 2792 cc.
The carb for this engine was a 2 BBL Model 2150, E37E-AEA (Will not cross except for re-build kits!)
The Holley remanufactured PN is 645544

Autozone lists 3 carbs... one for manual trans one for auto trans and one other:

I went to go have my 1990 Honda Accord smogged and it didn't pass because the engine was missing a CARB #. How do I get a CARB #?

You would only need a CARB # if you had any aftermarket emission, or air intake system replaced on your vehicle. If you do have an aftermarket air intake or any other emission parts installed, remove them and return the engine to only all original stock parts, and you will not have a problem with needing a CARB #.

If you want to keep the aftermarket parts, you will have to see The California Air Resource Board and let them give you a certification number.

I hope that this information was in any way helpful to you.

Trying to order a replacement carb for 1984 F150 with a 302. They ask what make the carb is and number. Problem is the original carb was removed and replaced with a 4 barrel. Trying to buy 2 barrel but...

I have ran into this frequently.1984 ford,if it is a california vehicle, had a feedback carb.(electronic feedback control) with a computer. and they had 49 state vehicles. The 49 state vehicle is not electronic feedback. if the intake has been changed, it's going to be hard finding the right carb for it. a 2bbl won't fit a 4bbl manifold. Holly carb makes a replacement carb to fit many vehicles. check with your local auto parts person. they should be able to help you, or find one in the wrecking yard with everything to swap it out.

SMOG TEST

If it was originally intended for Texas, it's probably been made as a 49-state-compliant vehicle (CA has stricter emissions). To pass in CA, you may need some new parts for the truck in order to get it to pass. Or you may find that the best course of action is to sell the truck and buy a CA-emissions car.

The CA DMV may well have information available on how to get non-CA-compliant cars to pass the CA emissions testing.
