I have a 1998 dodge intrepid 3.2. The battery seemed to have died, tried giving it a jump, the electrical system turned on but the car wouldnt start so I figured the battery was fully drained, got a new one and replaced it (dodge made it close to impossible). Now the car starts for a second or 2 with the alarm blaring. What could be the issue and how could I possibly fix this?

How long was the Battery Dead/OFF the vehicle?
Does it RUN for a second and QUIT ?
Does it have a Security Light and is it on or flashing sparatickly?
POSSIBLE - * The battery has been dead or off the car just long enough that the backup battery lost charge and the SECURITY SYSTEM has turned on . * The car has the DO NOT JUMP sticker and upon doing so the PCM / ECM (Computer ) got fried causing all kind of weird happenings. * The BCM(Body Control Module ) is faulty also kicking the Security System ON
FIXES - * Very Costly * 1st - Open HOOD and look next to fenders if no DO NOT JUMP sticker is present *Take car to DEALER and RESET the Security System . * If there is a DO NOT JUMP sticker then Replace the Computer (pcm/ecm) and have it flashed by dealer. * If Resetting System doesn't work Replace BODY CONTROL MODULE(BCM) it also controls the Security on your factory stereo( so if your Stereo is locked to then just change the BCM .
Hope this Helps , Flaming Ratchets Auto Repair

Try locking and unlocking with the remote or cycle the key in the drivers door lock to lock then unlock. That will usually reset the alarm.

Usually from weak,(small gauge wire) cables , improper hook-up,(backwards) or not connected good. If your vehicle has something stuck on that is drawing lots of power is a possibility too. Match them up + to +, and - to -. Do negative last.

SOURCE: 1999 Dodge Intrepid Dies while driving and sometimes won't start

I could very well be the TPS throttle position sensor acting up. I had a very similar situation on a 99 Concorde with the same engine in it in my shop today. Go to a shop that is able to do a data stream on the engine. What it is, is they hook up a scanner and have the ability to watch all the sensors as the car starts/runs.

SOURCE: 1994 Dodge Viper will not start after storage and battery drain.

With the battery charger connected or a jumper battery simply click the alarm key fob on and then off. This will reset the alarm and the car should start...had mine towed to find this out

SOURCE: 2004 Dodge Intrepid

The SAME thing is happening with my 2004 Dodge Intrepid - had it checked out, mechanic said ti was either the Solenoid Pack or Valve Body - and would cost about 300-400 for the solenoid and could be over 800 if its the valve body. I havent had it fixed yet because everyone who has the solenoid replaced says that it keeps happening...what else can I do> It's stuck in 2nd gear and wont go over 30mph!!

My 2003 dodge intrepid 2.7 just clicks when I try to start it if I get a jump I can drive for a while turn the car on and off a few times then it clicks again all dash lights seem to work any ideas?

Pull and clean the battery cables and post to a shine. Get the electricity to flow again. Make sure yourn battery is at 12vdc when starting and goes to 13.5 vdc when running. Usde a digital meter on battery when checking this. No other way.

Just bought a new battery and put it on and the car wouldnt even turn over but when i jump it it would start right up but then die 5 mins later

you need to charge the battery and also your charging system it shld not die because the alternator will take over to supply power to the system if it is charging even though the battery is still weak

1998 dodge intrepid battery light and heck engine light on. only 10 volts coming out of alternator. changed alternator, battery and pcm module. still has lights.

I have a 2000 dodge intrepid- the battery light was coming on and off for a few days and then the car just died. We checked and replaced the alternator and the car started right up (we did charge the battery for an hour before starting the car) but when you take the charger off the battery the car slowly dies. 1998 dodge intrepid won't start!

Well, you can try unplugging the battery for a few minutes and also cycling the key back and forth in the ignition to try and reset the car alarm. I'm thinking that it may need to be jump started though too if the battery is low, as it may not be turning over fast enough. Let me know how this works out for you and what worked and didn't work.
