2001 Taurus Won't Restart when Engine is warm

Recently, I have had problems restarting my 2001 Ford Taurus, after I have been driven it for a while. I first noticed the problem when doing errands around town. I start the car and drive to the first destination or two and car starts / restarts (sometimes a bit sluggishly). Once car seemed to warm up, it became harder to start. When i turn the key, the engine cranks VERY SLOWLY as if the battery is dying/dead. If i try to restart 2 or 3 times, i get no engine cranking noise at all. Last week, i went to get gas after driving about a 1/2 hour on the highway. When i went to turn the car on, NOTHING. If i turn the key 3/4 of the way, the lights come on, the radio comes on, the windows can be put up and down, but when i turn the key to actually start the car, i HEAR NOTHING. The key turns to the end. After sitting about 20 - 30 min. the car will restart. The battery was replaced in November when i got the car (as was the air filter). I just had some work done at the dealership (including new gas cap) but have no idea why this is happening.

Try this put some STP gas treatment and checkout your fuel filter which is under the car in the frame on the passenager side and checkout the drive belt if all of this fails have the alternator tested and you would know if its the alternator cause driving at night most of the lights would stay on the dash cause the car would be running off the battery and most of the repair you are having now are easy check out this website it if they do they will have diagrams and pictures showing you how to repair your car and check on parts and prices at the same time there is i hope i have been some help to you Michigan Man.

Won't restart in Warm Weather

The first thing you need to do is run the system for fault codes, any Autozone will do this for free, ask for a OBD2 fault code test. If no codes show check the fuel pressure next time this start problem occurs.

2001 ford taurus wont start just turns over

You'll have to figure out if you are lacking fuel to the injectors or spark to the plugs to proceed.

Ford Taurus runs great till it warms up then shuts off and won't restart this is a 1995 taurus

A mechanic would check for voltage at the coil and the ignition module next.
Any trouble codes stored in the ECM ?

Show what fuses goes where on 2001 taurus

The first place to start is the Ford 2001 Owner's Manual.

You can get a .pdf version of the 2001 Ford Taurus Owner's Manual at:

It has instructions and guides for finding and replacing the fuses in a 2001 Ford Taurus. It starts on page 146-147.

Always use the specific Owner's Manual for the correct Model Year of a Ford or Mercury vehicle. I recently purchased a 2001 Ford Taurus, and had thought that I could use the Owner's Manual from a 1999 Mercury Sable from a friend. BUT, I figured out that each model year can be very different (before any serious damage happened.)

Good luck,

2001 taurus random stalling. try to restart get click, click click. after several trys starts fine with no noticable slowdown of starter rpm.

Try cleaning and retightening the connections at your battery terminals. Corrosion will cause a bad connection, especially on the negative side. Also make sure the battery cable isn't corroded where it attatches to the clamp itself. Sometimes those will cause a weak connection....Mike
