Get a tool for removing the inner door panel. Determine which tool is used to remove door handle / armrest (screwdriver or Torx or hex head screw) and get that tool. Remove door handle, then door panel. Once that is removed, you can determine whether nylon tape needs to be replaced or if motor assembly has come loose and needs to be reattached or if the window is simply off its track (if it is, you should already know this because it will drop down by itself). A video is at How To Install Replace Rear Power Window Regulator ...
If you want to have someone else repair the window, and if it has come off its track, use some clear packing tape (lengthwise) to secure the window to the door until you can get it repaired.
Not much to your question, or what you need to know You have to figure out how to remove the inner door panel Then figure out how to remove the window regulator,if you find it broken Then if the motor or regulator needs to be replaced-- after testing the motor, you have to remove the motor, in some cases & put on the new regulator, or just install a new motor to old regulator This is if those two items are the problem, could be a bad switch
Gently remove the door panel of your Contour, ensuring that you don't break the three door clips that hold it on. As you pull the panel from the door, support the panel from below. This will ensure that none of the wiring inside the door is damaged. Release the wiring from the components inside the door, including the power window mechanism, power lock mechanism (if equipped) and the stereospeaker. Place the door panel in a safe area with the clips so they are accessible when you are ready to replace them.
2Remove the window glass by sliding it up and out of the door. Support the glass from the bottom so it doesn't drop and break. Window glass for a Contour can cost around $150 to replace. After you remove the glass, put it in a safe place. You may want to wrap it in old towels or blankets to protect it until you are ready to reinstall it.
Unplug the wires from your Contour's window motor, and remove the screws from the window motor and regulator. Remove the power window motor and regulator from your Contour to make way for the new parts.
4Install the new window regulator into the door, and replace the screws that held them in place.
5Replace the window glass into the door, and connect it to your Contour's power window motor and regulator assembly.
6Replace the door panel. Reconnect the wiring for the power window and power lock controls, and replace each clip that connects the panel to the door.
Check fuses first if other windows work disregaurd. remove door panel test connections going to motor remove them from moter set volt meter to 0 to 25 volts push window switch if voltage is present reconnect to motor push switch again if motor is not working replace. auto dismantler motors are much less expensive than new.
The motor has a gear,to repair the electric motor, this is what most of the time goes out ,also, napa has ,what they call gears that go in the gear, this is what most of the time gets chewed up,and it is cheaper to replace them, just remove the window motor and remove the gear, and clean out the old chewed up gear plugs, and replace them,I think about 9 dollars,if this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.
For 4.0L, inside the engine compartment, on the passenger side firewall, remove the coolant overflow bottle retaining strap remove the coolant overflow bottle and bracket. Unplug the blower motor. Remove the 3 blower motor bolts.Remove the blower motor.Remove the blower motor fan from the motor shaft for access to the motor attaching nuts. Can you hear the moter or do interior lights dim when pressing button? If so remove door panel and lubricate tracks and rolers using lithium grease lube only the tracks that do not come in contact with glass.
Check the connections at the switch and at the moter with a volt meter if there is power than time for a new moter. no power than check at drivers side switch. If no power there and fuse is ok you have a open in wires and will have to trace entire circut
The motor is located just under the glove box on the passenger side. I remove the glove box then the panel below the glove box. I also go ahead and pull back the carpet and the padding under the motor. It is held in place by 3-4 bolts that take a 7-8 millimeter socket. I use a swivel extension for the back bolts. The motor with the fan blade attached is a tight fit, just keep wiggling and pulling it should come out. Try to remove the old moter without cracking the fan blade, because sometimes the replacement motor doesn't come with a blade
I had the same problem on my 1992 lesabre. The solution is to test the window motor itself with an external 12 volt power supply ( I used the car battery and some jumper cable w/ 2 screw drivers - not recommended for amatures! LOL) First remove the door panel which is difficult but you'll figure it out if you are qualiifed to repair your window yourself. Then test the window moptor if it functions (in both directions) THEN IT IS THE WINDOW SWITCH, A FUSE OR A RELAY. If the moter does not function then replace the motor Good Luck You can get a new window motor on ebay or at your local junk yard or (god forbid) the dealership
