the ranger is a 1989 4x4 and the 302 came out of a 93 bronco converted to a 4 barrel carb.

  • skipoh May 12, 2009

no it's a push button that shifts the 4 wheel drive in and out

  • skipoh May 12, 2009

both are pushbutton. the ranger was a 2.9l aod i guess with a pushbotton transfer case yes. yes, 93 bronco 302 w/aod push button transfer case.
    thanks,

  • skipoh May 19, 2009

And the transmission is a 1993 also? By pushbutton do you mean the overdrive off button?

O.K. You have a pushbutton transfer case. Sorry I'm just trying to get it straight. Both vehicles are pushbutton transfer cases? Right? I can make a diagram and e-mail it to you. (Ranger is a 3 liter, A4LD transmission, and pushbutton transfer case) and you are installing (5.0 liter, AOD transmission, and pushbutton transfer case) All out of a 1993 Bronco. Am I Correct?

    O.K. I'll look it up

Hey are the plugins the same because the wiring to the transfer case module, the switch and the shift motor are exactly the same for both vehicles.

All the wire colors should be the same. I'm not sure about the shift motor bolt patterns. Can you remove the shift motor from the transfercase you took out of the ranger and put it on your new one. (You will have to cut a splice one wire that goes into the case for the electronic clutch). I can send you the diagrams, but they are exactly the same.

If you can't switch the shift motors, you'll have to cut off one of the plugs and splice the other style so they will hook together.

No. AOD trans from 1985 is hydraulic shift. You need to hook up the Throttle valve cable from the drivers side of the trans to the carb. Is this hooked up.

I may need to replace the automatic transmission out of my 1995 mustang GT convertable. I need the factory name or the specs of the tranny so I can look around and be sure I am getting the right...

YOU HAVE A AOD,NOT AN AODE. YOU'RE AOD HAS A MANUAL THROTTLE VALVE CABLE WITH MANUAL OVERDRIVE SELECTIVE BY LINKAGE. AODE HAS ELECTRONIC OVERDRIVE ACTIVATED BT A BUTTON AND MORE INTERNAL ELECTRONICS,THIS ONE WON'T WORK. TRY GETTING A REBUILD ON IT,MAY BE CHEAPER WITH A WARRANTY! GO SOME WHERE RELIABLE THOUGH LIKE DEALER.

stanley-
the only way to actually check that torque conv. is to take it out... i have seen a bunch that have stripped out splines inside the converter, or a broken pump shaft... if the fluid is not OVERfull on the dipstick i would say its probably the converter. hope this helps and good luck

Pushbutton 4x4 problem.

The module is located behind the drivers side rear wheel "interior" panel cover. Not likely that the module is at fault. There is a small plastic ring that fits around a little metal stud on the electrical plate located on the transfer case side of that little motor that you replaced. If that little plastic ring is missing or smashed then that electrical plate rotates just a little too far and then it no longer touches where it should. Its like the power comes on when you first replace it but never again after that. Take that little motor off again and make sure that plastic ring is intact.
