2003 Ford F350, massive hydrolic pwr steerinfluid leak

2003 Ford F350, massive leak from hydrolic power steering system??? ( Has booster type system....I think? Don't see a reqular P/S pump. ). Fluid appears to be coming out from lower steering unit where steering arm connects to steering pump. Does the entire unit need to be replaced or is there a seal of some type up in behind where the arm is connected?

Now All I have to do is borrow a Pitman puller. Sounds pretty easy after that.

What I think you are referring to as the pump is really the steering box because the pump doesn't have an arm connected to it. The pump has 2 hoses and a belt going to it. From what you describe it sounds like you need a pitman shaft seal. The seal is replaceable but you will need a pitman arm puller to get the pitman arm off. If you don't have or can't get a puller don't even bother starting the repair, as you WILL NOT get the pitman arm off without one. When you get the pitman arm off clean out around the shaft and you will see a snap ring. Remove the snap ring. Now make sure the power steering is full of fluid. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel all the way one way or the other and hold it there while increasing the RPM. Doing this will literally "BLOW" the seal out. There will be a couple of spacers and maybe another seal that come out of the hole also. So read the installation instructions that come with the seal kit and it will have a picture of where the components go and in what order they go in. Don't forget the snap ring. When done replaceing the seal you have to center the steering box. From all the way one way turn the steering wheel all the way the other way and count the turns. Now turn back the other way half as many turns and the box is centered. With the tires pointed straight (not turning) the pitman arm should go right on. The pitman arm will go on the pitman shaft in 4 different places. So if you don't center the box and the wheels you might have say one turn to the right before the steering wheel stops and three turns to the left. With all this done fill the power steering with fluid. With the front tires off the ground and the engine NOT running turn the steering wheel all the way from stop to stop 4 or 5 times and then check the fluid again. Fill the fluid and turn wheel from stop to stop another 4 or 5 times. Doing this will "bleed" most of the air out of the system. Now start the engine and turn wheel from stop to stop a few more times to "bleed" any remaining air from system. Turn off the engine and check fluid level. Hope this is helpful.

Power steering fluid is full? Sounds like it might be a power steering pump. It has hydroboost brakes that are controlled by the Power steering.

Hard to start and has no power. runs like it has a massive vacuume leak

What engine do you have, V-10? It could very well be a vacuum leak, check the hose that goes to the brake booster, follow it back to the engine. That hose sometimes goes to a "T" fitting and there are other vacuum lines that go off of that, follow those too. Also check the PCV valve on the right hand (passenger side) valve cover, there's hose on that too it could be a faulty PCV valve too. Throttle body gasket or intake manifold gasket are also possibilities. If it's the Diesel engine, I guess I would start with the fuel filter. Does it start hard hot and cold? If it starts hard cold and smokes a lot you may have glow plug issues. On either engine I guess there could be a sensor that's going bad, are you getting a "Check Engine Light"?

Leak somwhere in the tranny coolant system

hello! judging by the key words in your statement, i assume your coolant has an oily type residue in it? very slimy?...tranmsisison oil coolers rarely fail on your type vehicle. it is more likely that your engine oil cooler has ruptured and has allowed the intermix of fluids. if that is not your concern, disregard and assume my ADHD has kicked into high gear!..by the way...your ford 6.0 diesel came with a manufacturers warranty on the engine of 5 years, 100,000 miles (with $100 deduct) if you are in these parameters...see your local Ford dealer!

Lost all power steering fluid and brakes

Hi Salmancasmi,
On vehicles with a hydraulic booster you will find that the power steering pump supplies fluid through bot the steering gear box and the hydraulic booster.
Just a visual inspection of the system should point you to the part that failed, most likely a hose. These can be obtained through your local parts store or dealership.
Locate and replace the failed part, refill the reservoir with power steering fluid. With the front of the truck on jack stands, start the truck and turn the steering wheel from full left to full right several times while pumping the brakes. This will remove the air from the system. Recheck for leaks and fluid level and you'll be on your way.
Hope that helps, good luck.

2004 f350 power steering problem. when the truck is in gear with your foot on the brake you cant turn the wheels. the power steering pump has been replaced and the fluid changed with no result.

2006 f350 crew 4x4. Replaced p/s pump, booster, put gauges to check pressure? Fluid clean, lifted in air to check steering linkage and turning without load. Still baffled ! I work at a Ford dealer and mechanics said its normal. Thats BS! I replaced the p/s pump so im guessing the screen was new with the pump. I will check for the hell of it. I have a feeling it is suspension under load. The symptom on this truck is not turning when brake applied. Also hard turning when vehicle is on and in park, wont turn.

Speedometer Needs to be reset

if you have this problem with a check engine light pull the codes to se if your speed sensor is bad and replaced, but if not try installing another alternator because they have didoes inside to convert alternate pwr to d/c power and if one diode is leaking a/c the the electronics don't know what to do.
