Question about 1999 Chevrolet Suburban
Blows warm air the compressor will not engage
The ac compressor has a safety switch built in it to keep it from coming on if the liquid level of freon is low this keeps the compressor from overheating and going out all together. try hooking up a can of R134a and turn the can upside down so that the liquid flows in and the compressor should kick in with almost one full can.

Your system has R-134 Freon in it. the 134 is made up of smaller molecules than the old R-12. The R -134 permeates through the rubber parts of the system. If the system gets too low on Freon, the compressor will stop coming on.(low pressure cut out switch). Have the system serviced with an A.C. machine that can vacuum, measure the amount of Freon in the system, and add the right amount. The machine can also inject die. Later the die will show up under a black light. This will show any leaks you may have.

your condensor fins could be blocked by leaves or other debris on the outside. this component is located right behind the radiator. there could also be an overcharge or under charge in the system. make sure that when you charged the system that you used a good set of gauges to check the system pressures. Also check and make sure that there is not a blockage somewhere in the lines, Usually if there is there is a fine layer of ice surrounding it.
