Question about 2002 Volvo V70

1 Answer

Fuel leaking almost poring from under back left seat, under car

Just bought 2002 xc70 w/ less than 72K. I filled up, probably over filled due to slope angle angle away from the pump. As I walked around to drivers side I see wet spot on the ground expanding rapidly. Gas was just about streaming on outside of black plastic cover or possibly the tank itself. I went ahead and drove it about 80 miles and checked again and it was not leaking but fumes then and today are very strong.

If the location of the wet spot was towards the rear of the car by the fuel full hose and as you said the leak stopped as you use up fuel and lowered the fuel level in the tank than the leak is located in the fill pipe area or tank. Next time you fill go under the car and look for the wet spot.

Car not starting

check fuel gauge - sometimes it may appear filled but due to location of fuel sensor or car on slope it might be giving false reading. Fill some petrol.

If starter is cranking but ignition not happening then spark cables might be weak.

If starter not cranking then battery may be dead.

Fuel pump leak

Looks like it may be a fuel return line from the fuel manifold . It may be split or loose . Probably both . Get a new section of fuel hose and some good clips and replace it

2002 V70XC awd wagon..urget air bag service lite on dash, was told there was faulty connection under the seats, took the seats loose looked under them, did not see one wire with a connector as I was told...

with your code in the dash and no code w/reader it could be possible you have a small leak in your wind shield allowing water in dripping onto your cicuit board causing a short. however the danger involved in air bags you may be better off and safer at a dealer.

2002 expedition gas smell

When filling up do you top off the take or stop when the pump shuts off ? Over filling to the point the vapor canister is full of fuel ? Gas tank filler tube is rusted an leaking , Hose for evaporative emissions leaking ? Look under the vehicle at the fuel for a crack vapor canister etc... Your vehicle is a 2002 an these parts don't last for ever . Any warning light's lit on the instrument cluster ? Check engine light etc.... Do you know what a evaporative emissions system is ? It stores fuel vapors instead of venting to the atmosphere .

Had fuel pump replaced. now 2002 jeep grand cherokee leaks gas when filled.

The seal at the fuel pump is not seated correctly, or the filler hose is leaking. take it back.

Fuel gauge not working coming in and out how do I fix it. Can I get to the tank and sensor

nissan has issues with sending units in your type truck. nissan extended the warantee on those up to 72k miles, so if your truck has less than 72k go to your local friendly nissan dealer and they should replace it for FREE. If you have more than 72k on it, than you will need to remove the gas tank to replace sending unit. and of course you will need a specialty tool to open the gas tank top. there is a big retainer ring that you need to take off to get inside of the tank to replace sensding unit. so to sum it up, if you have less than 72k go to a dealer. if more than 72k you will need to doit your self.

I have a gas smell although the dealer told me that there is no leak in the lines. Could it be the in-line filter?

could be any were your gas travels but due to the age of your vehicle id look under the hood especialy at the fuel injecters and the fuel rail and its connection look for wetness with the engine running your injectors have to o-ring on each injector an upper where they are seated into the rail and the lowwer were they are seated into the engine. could be a leak in the filler neck also a bad egr valve will not let the pressure flow when its supposed to so you got to track down the smell front or back and go from there

Inside the cabin strong gas smell after fill up for approx 50 miles. 2003 Honda Odyssey 85k miles.

do you have the same fuel economy as before or does you gas last less miles than before. if you can smell gas whether the car is running or NOT that means you have a leak in your fuel system if it was not a leak, you would not smell it when not running . first thing is check under vehicle after overnight parking and see if there is fuel on the ground if there is , this will give you a starting point where to look for gas leak. Plugged, dirty or poorly connected fuel injector; Leaking fuel filter or fuel filter connections; Punctured or damaged fuel tank; Loose or poorly connected fuel pump; Gas in gas can in trunk.
