During a storm the other night our the alarm on the car started going off. Unlocking and locking the doors, putting the key in the ignition, etc did not work. Finally I disconnected the alarm from the battery, but when i reconnect it it goes off again. How do you reset the alarm???

Re: alarm problem on my 2001 elantra
This alarm system can only be 'disarmed' using the keyless remote programmed for this specific vehicle. Press the "Unlock" button on the keyless remote -- this resets/disarms the alarm system. If you do not have keyless remote for this vehicle, get one and have it programmed at a Hyundai Service Center. Problem solved.

You can probably pull the horn relay to kill the horn while you are working on the problem. With the battery connected to a jumper, try locking and unlocking the driver's door with the key. If that works, make sure the battery gets charged before you unhook the jumper cables to keep the computer memory alive.
I have just purchased a 2001 hyundia elantra, the other day i was filling up with petrol. the doors automatic lock the doors with my keys still inside the car, the doors make a clicking noice all the time
Apparently the "LOCK" function is working normally because the burglar alarm is being activated when you 'lock' the car. Is this right?
The fact the engine won't start when the burglar alarm is activated is NORMAL If the doors will not UNLOCK front the driver's door manual switch, I believe you have a bad DOOR UNLOCK relay in the control module.
HI first check to see under the hood on the left side you will see a black round small circle push button switch. It will be right near the washer bottle. look and see if that is bent down at all because it needs to come in contact with a black rubber grommit that should be on the back side of your hood. that grommit may be missing and it will also cause this problem. If all looks good there you are going to need a BCM body control module. A bcm is a computer that run your door locks and alarm. Elantras are prone to have the 3 problems i have told you. hope this helps you out thanks.
this happened to me recently with my 96 grand cherokee. the battery got drained by the alarm going off randomly at night. i pulled the fuse for the horn so at least my neighbors would only be bothered by flashing lights. then i couldn't jump the car because the alarm was still going off. i hooked my car to jump it to another car, and then i had to deactivate the alarm first by putting my key in the driver side door and unlocking the car. then i left it hooked to another car and still getting power but didn't jump it for at least 5 minutes in case the computer needed to reset. then it jumped fine. from what i've read online, this is a common problem that can be avoided if you stop using the power locks and always manually lock and unlock the doors with your key. its a little annoying, but apparently the power locks are connected to the alarm issue. hope the same works for you.
