Question about Fiat 124
I have a 1967 lambretta. it is a 2 stroke 150 cc engine with a kick start. when i kickstart it, it backfires out the carb, i do not have the air hose attached at the moment. it also smokes slightly from the cylinder area. i haven't gotten it started, but right now im concerned with the backfiring
Clean spark plug an gap it to .025inch
if still backfiring reset timing / points

If you see smoke from the cylinder area then something is loose or a gasket has blown.
This could be
a) the plug
b) the exhaust manifold and/or gasket
c) the cylinder head and/or gasket.
You will need to remove the head cowling to see properly. This is simple but you MUST first remove the read shock absorber and the rubber engine 'bump stop' to allow the head and cylinder to swing down clear of the frame. look at http://www.scooterhelp.com/tips/engine/lam.engine.main.html
