Hi -- the timing marks on a twin cam are tricky!! heres how- turn the motor over to tdc on the bottom pulley, this will align two marks on the lower cog-----now on the top cog,it has an obvious mark near the teeth-- well disregard this for now!! the cog has a hole in it,in one of the spokes, well this goes at 12 o,clock and lines up with a mark you will see on the housing! now if you are right you will see the mark near the teeth is at around 4,oclock---i just did one and it is right--cheers

I have 1998 hyundai excel twin cam l have just put cams out of 1999 excel and it sound like it has a lumpy cam now at lidle. Now my car smells like unburnt fuel.can this be from cam not being in right at...

double check all youre timing marks . loosten tentioner and adjust cam.then tighten chain .manually turn motor over twice then check timing marks again this is a little tricky sometimes because when you tighten the tentioner the cam will move. you have to have the chain in a spot to compensate for this movement.

Replacing timing belt; need timing belt markings for 2000 mazda protege

If it has the twin camshafts, then you need to align the bottom crankshaft pulley marking (there's only one marking at top dead centre). Then you'll need to align the two camshaft pulleys. You need to use the first two sets of markings and then double check the markings on the camshafts themselves, within the valve cover area. Always double check the crank shaft sensor is aligned properly on re-assembly as misalignment will result in a non-start and you might doubt your own work. Don't worry about timing belt failure or misalignment on the twin cam engine as this is a "safe-engine" and will not result in any damage.

How do you line up the cam gear to the camshaft on a 1996 volvo 960

just align the cam and crank marks with the marks on the covers. the timing marks WILL NOT ALIGN with the number one piston on TDC. just align the marks and the car will run ok. that's the correct way to do it.

STEP 4. Except Matrix: Turn crankshaft one turn clockwise.

STEP 5. Matrix: Turn crankshaft two turns clockwise.

STEP 6. Ensure timing marks aligned [6] .

Timing belt marking

The timing marks are just above the cams at the "twelve o'clock position"

If necessary, align the timing marks.
NOTE When aligning the cam pulleys with the seal plate marks, align the left cam pulley “I” mark and the right cam pulley on the “E” mark.

WARNING When aligning the timing marks, do not turn the timing gear counterclockwise. Damage to the engine will occur.
