Is the engine light on? If not it could be mechanical. The engine sounds like it is suffocating. This could be because of your catalytic converter, air or fuel filter. Take a look at the vehicles repair/maintenance history and go from there. If the car has over 100k miles then you may need the CAT.

I would guess that the CAT is clogged because of the carbons going into it (from the oil). Know that if that is the case and you are thinking of having the CAT replaced, it will only last up to 1 year. That is because of what I think the current condition is , of the motor. So if im right then you will need to make araingments to have the engine replaced. Which isnt worth it for that vehicle or repair it, drive it for a few months (while looking for a new car), and trade it in.

You would have to look into the cars' repair/service history to get a feel if anything was neglected. A misfire could be anything. A bad head-gasket, bad injector, plug, filter, gas cap, and so on.

Have 2003 Kia Sorento EX, sat for couple months, then changed batter to pass emission test. Test said not ready due to computer needs to be reset, how far do I have to drive to reset computer?

I think you mean drive cycle not complete.
Generally the van needs to be driven 50-100 miles at both city and highway speeds. The distance needs to start when the engine is at operating temp, and the speed needs to vary including stop and go city. It does not have to be all in one trip but the engine must be warmed up first.

I have a 2003 Kia Rio 4dr, 5 speed. I just had the clutch replaced in May and have a warranty of 12,000 miles or 12 months. Two days ago the clutch pedal went soft (spongy) on me and I had a hard time...

No not the garages fault the operating arm is no doubt split or broke and this is not the fault of the new clutch but a thing that just goes wrong ,and it a kia and they are not a very good car to start with ,cheap and cheerful is one description that comes to mind ,But they shouldnt need to take teh box out again as most clutch operating arms are bolted on to the bearing operating shaft .

What is the average miles before replacement of timing belt for a kia rio?

Manufacturers recommendation for the Rio is 50,000 to 60,000 miles. It is an interference motor, so I recommend not putting it off past the 60,000 mile mark.
