The Durango starts when it is cold. However if I drive it for a few miles and turn it off, it will not start back up. The motor is turning over, just no fire.

Hi,
What was serviced a few weeks back? Sounds like it needs a tune-up @ least to start - spark plugs, plug wires.

At 103K miles I'd also replace the fuel filter, air filter, PCV valve. And if you look in the Owner's Manual it should have a maintenance schedule for other items that may need attention.

I have a 2004 dodge durango 5.7l with the hemi, won't start

I would start by checking the basics which are checking for spark and fuel. If you have a gauge, check to see if you have fuel pressure when the key is turned on. If you have fuel pressure, check for spark. Chrysler products are known for the crank shaft sensor to go bad and cause a no start. Also, if driving for a certain period with the pedal depressed at the same speed, the throttle position sensor will stay at that position if stuck and will cause either and driveability problem or stalling. You may wanna look into replacing or at least checking that. Good luck.

Well...my ball park guess on this is just a tune up. The engine light is usually showing a misfire. If the plugs are bad then the cylinder is not igniting the fuel and it is flooding out. With what is here this makes sense to me. Let me know what it does turn out to be.

First off, how new is your battery and how many miles on the D? Dodge vehicles are very sensitive to a failing battery. Have it load tested, and if is the least bit flaky, replace it.

After that, the TPS or throttle postion sensor is your next.

As far as the revving up and down above 3000 rpm goes, that is the PCM protecting the engine from over revving.

2003 durango won't start after driving for a while

it sounds like it could be your temperature button also know as a thermostat
in newer cars this tell the motor if it is OK to start
if the button thinks that the motor is going to be in danger of overheating when starting then it will not allow it to run
the button is not connected to the temperature gauge in your dash bored
this could mean that you may need your cooling system flushed out
very easy i do it once a month to my car

  1. while the motor is cold, on the top of the radiator there is a hose disconnect that not using the smallest amount for force not to break the radiator.
  2. have a running hose ready to go with it turned on and the radiator cap off
  3. start the car and leave it run
  4. quickly got the the radiator and place the hose in the top of the radiator
  5. this will flush out any dirt build up around the button and may help the problem
  6. TURN OFF THE CAR THEN TAKE THE HOSE OUT
  7. put the hose back on the radiator and make shaw it is tight with out damaging the radiator
  8. start the car and fill with coolent
  9. take for a short drive close to home to make shaw you have put the hose on properly
  10. go home and let car sit for about 2 hours
  11. check the radiator and fill if needed
WHEN YOU DO THIS MAKE SHAW YOU DON'T HAVE A WARM MOTOR OR YOU MAY RISK CRACKING THE HEAD OF YOUR MOTOR THIS IS VERY EXPENSIVE IT MUST BE COLD
ALSO DONT RUN THE CAR WITH NO WATER IN IT BUT ALSO IN SAYING THAT YOU MUST RUN THE CAR BEFORE PUTING THE HOSE IN THE TOP WHERE THE CAP GOES
WHEN DRIVING THE CAR FOR THE FIRST TIME DONT LET THE CAR OVER HEAT IF HOSE COMES OFF THATS WHY YOU NEED TO STAY CLOSE TO HOME

hope this helps
