When you step on the brakes to kia spectra it doesnt allways stop at first then pedal goes all the way to the floor. is there anything i need to check?

Check that there is brake fluid in the m/cyl resevoir. Check under the car at the back of each brake and look for wet spots as it appears that you have a leak some where. If the vehicle has done a lot of miles the problem may be in the m/cyl in that a rubber boot is damaged and by passing fluid instead of pressureing the system

have your lines checked for leaks. if the rear brakes are drum brakes check your wheel cylinders (look under the back of the car and if the back of one tire is dry and ther other is wet and its all up into your wheel well theres your culpret). check your brake calipers to make sure fluid isn't slowly leaking past the piston (that could get ugly VERY quick and you would lose brakes and it always seems to happen on a hill too) if those are fine i would check your master cylinder

Stopping problem is totally unrelated to alternator. There should be a rubber hose between the engine and the brake booster behind the master cylinder. Make sure that it, as well as any other vacuum hoses are connected. If you can get it running, listen for loud sucking sound from leak.

i would check yor brake light switch make sure its adjusted correctly whitch will be located behind your brake pedal remove it press the button in and out your brake lights should turn on and off if this dont happen i would try a new switch as it sounds to me like the switch is sending a constan 12 v feed to brake lights

Brake lamp switch is normally the culprit of this problem, it is located on the brake pedal assembly itself.

Brake pedal trouble

have the brakes bleed first and if that does not take care of the problem have the master cylinder checked because the check valve in the master cylinder could be bad
