this was no help. we checked all fuses ect. we can hear something clicking in the front of the truck that stops when we pull the 2 fuses for the ctm and bcm. but can't find where it's comming from. where are these 2 units located. the door lockes do not operate ecept by the key. the sound is very faint and sounds like a circuit breaker. we disconnected the battery to see if it would reprogram but nothing changed

  • patern May 12, 2009

taking the door apart won't fix the headlights ,the wipers delay or inside lights

  • patern May 12, 2009

to hear the clicking you have to put your head tight to the headlight. you can't hear it with the hood open from the top or from underneeth. i could not find it with a stethascope .but remove the fuse from the bcm and ctm would stop it

the headlights, wiper delay, inside lights, power door locks do not work. the fuses are all o k . the battery has been cleaned.in a very quiet area a slight clicking can be heard by listening next to the headlight. it can;t be heard from under the hood or from underneath the truck.couldn't find it with a stethescope

Sir,
This is a common problem. Try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes....It will reset the WCM and BCM data. If this doesnt restore function, then either the switch is bad, or there is a wire broken in the Drivers door "BOOT"...

Thanks Good Luck

Hi

Please check the battery connections, relay and all the fuses from the fuse box.
Power door lock functions are controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM) and the Central Timer Module (CTM).
If all the locks unlock normally from any of the switches, the wiring and actuators are good. That leaves the possible causes as a bad door lock relay, Key-in ignition switch or CTM.
I would try to reprogram or re-synchronize the transmitters before taking it to the Dealer to have the DTC's pulled and the system diagnosed. But if the door locks don't lock from the door switch(s), I highly doubt reprogramming the transmitters will help.
Please do accept the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

    Hi

The clicking noise that you hear is from relay, try and replace the relay with a one with same rating. Also, you can try and disassemble the doors to check the actuators and the wiring. You can do that by following the procedure--

    REAR DOOR TRIM PANEL REMOVAL

    · Release door latch and open door.

    · Roll window down.

    · Remove window crank Window Crank - Typical , if equipped.
Remove screws attaching trim panel to door
CAUTION: Do not forcibly pull trim panel from door, damage to trim panel may occur.

    · Simultaneously lift upward and outward to release retainer steps from inner door panel Trim Panel Retainer.

    · Disengage inside handle linkage rod from inside handle.

    · Disconnect power widow/lock harness connector, if equipped Power Window/Lock Connector.

    · Separate door trim panel from vehicle.

    · If necessary, pull upper trim extension outward to disengage from rear door.

    INSTALLATION

    · If removed, install upper trim extension on rear door.

    · Position trim panel at door.

    · Engage harness connector for power window/lock, if equipped.

    · Engage inside handle linkage rod to inside handle.

    · Align trim panel retainer steps with inner door panel and slide trim panel into place.

    · Install screws attaching trim panel to door.

    · Install window crank, if equipped.

Please do accept the solution and revert for further assistance.

    Thanks

Have you checked the relays which are making click sound. The relay is located in the junction box on the left end of your instrument panel, behind a door that you pop off. Also see this link for Dakota relay wiring and check the relays---

    Hi

As we have already tried everything the best thing now would be to go to a mechanic and get your car serviced.

While I'm driving, the car locks and unlocks at random. what's the problem?

there is a possible 2x ratio solution, have the doorlocks checked for a open circuit, ( break in the wiring) or check the contact points on the doors, open all doors and with a scrw driver lock each door individually and check whick door lock causes the doors to unlock again, that doorlock will then be the root cause problem.

solution 2 , the doorlock switch could be faulty
