Why speedometer problems car runs faster than speed on speedometer?

Since the diagnostic shows good, it's a physical problem. Check that tire size is correct for the vehicle. Too large will slow the speedo. Tires too small will increase the speedo.

Speedometer cable transmission

no engine stated or transmission nor (worse) is it 4wd or 2wd.?
A/T or M/T , 4wd or 2wd, mine are both 4wd and M/T , know well.
Ill give all ways possible. (cert. tech)
you can do anything, there are no limits.
but there are consequences.. lots
context?
im not sure the question, is the one in car dead.?
and you plan on not fixing that? we need these facts.
or you want 2 speedos. one for front seat and 1 for back>?

see cluster page. here. free,
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm?utm_source=cj#service

STOCK: 1997
the PCM measure speed via the VSS from the tranny and sends MPH
to the I/P cluster brain, (data comms) this brain then sends speed to you at the speedo meter needle (gage). (stock setup)
(bar stool, answer)
Please,
note the VSS sensor can be in 3 places. 2wd, 4wd and on 2 differ.
post car spec, and answers get easier
post photos of trans, better. (left and right side)

transmission type, and even mid year changes on transmissions can
change this.

so your car has no speedometer cable. and
on some early transmissions, you can add one, only getting the full
transmission facts on car (label) could you find this out.

if you remove the VSS, the ECU will go to limhome and never run right again, and 2 times that, if tranny is a Automatic, it shifts using the VSS data !
VSS means vehicle speed sensor.

so tell me , where would you use a cable, there is no cable port.
(look and see, is it missing, yes?)
so scratch mechanical.
is there other ways sure. lots. (no idea of application,.. me.)
Get a GPS speed meter (sold as a guage) stand alone gage.

or load Speedo (app) to any Android phone and Glue CEL to dash)

or pot a Tom Tom Nav on the dash and see it right there.
or you can buy a mag sensor and speedo setup, that fits
to the rear drive shaft that gives you speed, (after calibrating it)
(after market Vss sensor + 4wires + guage ) 1/2 mechanical.

btw , i do have this android app , used for true speed, my large tires
make my speedo in car lie, )

custom parts.

Speedo 95 yj conversion 350 with 350 turbo trans and np231 transfer case 3.73 gears 33" tires wires cut off at transfer case and there is no speedo cable what do i need to get my speedo working

The vehicle speed sensor is located in the transfer case housing. To get your speedometer working you will have to connect the wires back to the speed sensor.

Security light and tire pressure light flashs while driving my 2009 jeep wrangler

the security light warns you that there is a safety problem and check your guages. Just check the tire pressure and add where it needs it. this should fix your problem. If it continues often then you probably have a slow leak and need tire repair

What happens if I put 16" diameter wheels/tires on

Hi, this will lower the centre of gravity of your Jeep, this will in turn make your Jeep handle better on the road, this will also affect your Speedo and mileage slightly. The Speedo will be reading a slightly faster speed and add about 5m to every 1000m actually travelled.

I have 2002 jeep wrangler at speeds between 50 nad 55 mph I get a vibration in the the front steering. I changed the steering damper and had the tires rotaded and balanced and i still have the problem.

have the mounts checked on the control arms, alot of times the can bend slightly due to a "curb" check. Call a local 4X4 shop and tell them you are experiencing the "death shake" they should know what you are talking about. That was the problem on my 02 TJ, i had replaced everything when i noticed that the angle on the control arm looked a little off.

My speedometer and odometer quit working. I replaced the speed sensor and the speedo gear looks good. Whats next?

if I remember correctly, the speed sensor plugs into the trans and there were some concerns with the gear in the trans

simple test, with the engine running, have someone watch your speedometer while you hold the sensor in your hand, plugged in and spin the gear. If the speedometer works then suspect the trans gear

Just got a 1998 Jeep Wrangler and the speedometer is not correct. How can I adjust it to the correct speed?

If it is a fault of the speedometer it will have to be either replaced or repaired at a shop that repairs them.If it is because of a different size tires then what came on from factory the computer will have to be reprogrammed.
