Question about 2002 Ford Escape

1 Answer

System Too Lean (Bank2)

The car starts but idles really rough. When you try to drive it it sounds like a motor boat and hardly goes. When you try pushing on the accelerator it stumbles and dies. Check engine light is on and the code is PO174 System too lean (Bank 2)

With what your describing I'm surprised to see there is only that one code present. I would expect to see a misfire code as well. To me it sounds like either a very large vacuum leak or a fuel delivery problem that for some reason only effects bank 2.

disconnect the oxygen sensor on that side & see what happens

I had an issue like this. The Zetec engine sounded like an old Diesel, ran rough, and had little power.
One of the hoses to the intake had come off. I don't know if it was a vacuum hose, or a PCV hose, but once I reconnected it, the engine ran the way it should.

2005 jeep grand cherokee Po204 205 175 174 138 158. Runs rough. Whats wrong?

PO204,205 are injector circuit malfunction,PO174 is a system lean code, PO175 is system rich code, PO138 is heated oxygen sensor bank1 sensor 2 circuit high voltage, PO158 is heated oxygen sensor bank2 sensor 2 circuit high voltage. This is a repair for your mechanic. When they fix the injector and o2 circuits the rich lean codes will also be repaired. Continued driving will ruin your catalytic converter. Good luck

Changing harmonic balancer

Nope! Why don't you give the mechanic a tune to see if it's running rough because of lean mixture, fail ignition coils, worn spark plugs....could be one of those things. Because when yours is rough at idle, it means the mixture is not right, more likely be lean or one or more cylinders not igniting properly. Got nothing to do with harmonic balancer. But do check motor mount for cracks, but faulty mounts only give you excessive movement that you can really feel it KICKS when you change from P - R - D.

Po174

A P0174 lean code for bank 2 is the cylinder bank on the LEFT (driver) side of the engine on Ford vehicles with a transverse-mounted V6 engine and front-wheel drive. This code is not set on four cylinder engines (no bank 2).
WHAT A LEAN CODE MEANS
A lean fuel condition may exist if the engine is sucking in too much air and/or the fuel system is not delivering enough fuel. If bad enough, a lean fuel condition may cause lean misfire, a rough idle, hesitation or stumble when accelerating, and/or poor engine performance . Unmetered air can enter the engine through a vacuum leak, a dirty airflow sensor that is not reading airflow accurately, an EGR valve is not closing and is leaking exhaust into the intake manifold, an EGR valve that is allowing too much flow (because the EGR differential pressure sensor that monitors EGR flow is faulty and is under-reporting EGR flow).
If the problem is not enough fuel, the underling cause may be a weak fuel pump, restricted fuel filter, leaky fuel pressure regulator or dirty fuel injectors.

2003 GMC Sierra Has recently developed rough idle/lope at idle which sometimes goes away. Runs fine otherwise. Scan codes-Lean condition bank1 and bank2. Random misfires on all cylinders. Fuel pressure...

You never replace anything, on a Wishing,Hoping,Pushing,Poking, diagnostic approach

You learn the vehicles Systems,Test, then Replace,if you have a failed component.

Work on the Misfire Issues.
Then you lean O2 Codes will go away.

Not a the plugs.

Think lean---Vacuum leaks,EGR Valve leak,EVAP System leaks, anything with a hose that lets air into the intake system.
Exhaust System leaks,near sensors

Idling rough in cold weather codes that come up are p1131 and p1151 need to know what these codes are and what parts they are

DTC P1131 DTC P1151 indicates the system is correcting RICH for an overly LEAN condition. The Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) voltage is less than 0.45 volts. This is usually due to a vacuum leak after the MAF. It can also be caused by a bad PCV valve or PCV system hose. It can also be caused by low fuel pressure or a plugged injector.

Start with the simple and clean the MAF and the IAT sensor. In simple terms, the engine is running lean and is being compensated by the ECM. P1131 is bank 1 and P1151 is bank2

Good luck and keep me posted.

2001 Tahoe: Hard to start, idles rough, check engine light on.

Flashing check engine light is missfire, fuel pump probably causing multiple tries to start.Having to build fuel preasure, vac leak on one side of intake probably causing rich/lean condition. Also check back preasure to cat ,Sound like you are moving down right track.Mas air flow would probably set lean code bank1 and lean code bank2

Idles rough upon start , goes dead when letting up on gas.

If the bat went dead and was disconnected it can take 25 to 50 miles of driving for computer to reset sensors and controls. Sounds like MAF Sensor maybe reading different than when it was first driven. Did you drastically change climates or altitudes, New readings from when it originally was put into service. Slight changes in temp, alt and other variables gradually reset, if driving does not improve within 50 miles it will need diagnostics.
