Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Radio only works occasionally.

The radio in my 96 Gr. Cher. only works sometime if I hit a bump in the road. Where are the connections for the ground wires and antennae wires? I tried another radio, worked the same way.

They should all be in the back of the stereo remove the stereo carfully the ground will be an all black wire and the antenna wire will probably be by itself on the right hand side of the stereo it has a long needle lookin tip to it that plugs into the back of the stereo

once i faced same situation on my old skoda pickup. radio contacts at back was loose. i replaced the frame which holds radio on its contacts. but if radio is a fixed model like all new dash units, you may need to check socket at back for its contacts and wires and you may need to check fuse on radio itself.

has someone worked on the car in that area? either way it sounds like a loose connection in the rear of the radio, or worse in the radio, so as most car fires are caused by defective radios i would suggest the radio is removed and checked for the fault

Radio/Clock stopped working but comes back on when I hit a bump

I suspect the problem is with one of the radio circuit boards, but check the connector at the bqack of the radio first, if that is clean and tight then the radio will need to be sent out for repair.
