I have a 1998 Chevrolet K2500 that the headlights are not working correctly on. When I turn the headlights on nothing comes on unless I turn on the high beams, only the high beams are on, no low beams. If I turn the switch to the "parking" lights position then the low beams come on. I have tried replacing the headlight switch but it does the same thing. There are no blown fuses. Any ideas?

Somehow the tan wire from the low beams has been cut from the hi/lo switch and is now attached to the brown wire from the headlight switch. Trace the tan wire from the headlights to the hi/lo switch to see what happened.

SOURCE: 1997 Chevrolet Headlight problem

We had the same exact symptoms right down to the clicking noise under the dash. A friend who is a mechanic provided all the wiring diagrams, etc and when we pulled the dash we found that there was another enclosure behind the dash.....we stopped there.......

....waited a few days, did some research and decided since a replacement headlight switch was about $50.00 the easiest route was to to swap that out hoping it would fix the problem....was also a very easy installation.

Turns out that fixed the problem. Good luck!!!

SOURCE: headlights wont come on, but parking lights work...i dont get it

Was sent in by another poster, just posting his results which fixed mine. Problem was relay $50.00 at GM only.

Check the relay module. 45 or 46. on the engine relay block. you can swap the two they are the same part number, then you will know. Dont start the engine, just check the lights. If it works replace the relay module. You may have to order the part from the parts store. Or go to the dealer to get it.

SOURCE: daytime running lights work but go out when I turn

Some of these vehicles do this from the factory. Read the owners manual section for daytime running lights.

Headlights wont come on unless you mess with turn signal lever is this the multifunction switch

It is the dimmer switch correct? So there is a bad connection in it somewhere. Is it loose when you move it around? It should be real tight with no play.

1998 chevy k2500. starts but dies.can hear fuel pump when key is turned on and it will start for about a second then dies.isnt keeping fuel flow

Fuel pump. Not cheap and you'll need to remove the bed to change it. Not hard to do. Remove bed bolts and just lift the driver side. If you jump right in it only takes about an hour.

Recheck the wires coming from the starter, for rub-thru, and grounding. Commonly a wire gets pinched between the starter and the starter housing. Wiring touching or near the exhaust manifold can melt, check there too :)
