Question about 2003 Ford ZX2

No Power Steering

Went and got my car inspected, everything checks out ok. Next day hubby went to drive my car and says that my car is really hard to steer. I tried and I agreed. I knew my power steering went but unsure why. Power steering fluid is full. There was no squealing of a belt prior to the power steering failure. What is wrong?

PS. Also, we were driving it to work w/no power steering. All of a sudden, the battery light comes on and the car starts losing power. First the radio went off, then the car got dim and the headlights started dimming as well until it was as if we were using only our parking lights. 4 ways didn't work and neither did turn signals and the car lost so much power. Transmission started cutting in and out (driving ok at 3k rpms at 40mph.. almost like a standard, driving along at a speed then pushing the clutch in while staying on the gas for a second and revving high) and within a minute we were down to going 5mph at 6k rpms.

The pump may have locked up,try turning it with the belt off, since its off now, which is why the battery light came on and lost power.Anyhow turn it back and forth feel for end shaft play, drain about 1 pint of fluid out by using a turkey baster, and add 1 pint of dot 3 brake fluid to the powersteering fluid,it helps with lubricating the bearings and seals.

Sounds like a belt come off, that drives your alternator & power steering as well.

check the condition of the pump drive belt as the cold weather makes it more difficult to flex and if it is worn or loose it may be your problem

My lock went out on my steering wheel

went out?
the ignition key and steering lock are all in one place (part)
if the steering wheel wont unlock the operators guide shows what to do.
you wiggle the steering, as you wiggle the key to unlock.
if tires are against the carb, this can be very hard to do.
ask hubby to do that. (yank wheel hard )

2003 ford taurus steering very hard

Please go out and open the hood and see if there is a belt on the power steering pump. It is one of the pulleys that is using that really long serpentine belt. Next, check the belt tension to be sure it is tight. Then, check the power steering fluid, there should be a short dipstick on the bottom of the cap. If all of those are OK, find a way to jack up the whole front end of the car.
You will need to VERY surely secure the car from moving or rolling. With the front wheels not touching the ground, and the transmission in Park, start the motor and try to turn the front wheels. If the turning is still hard, suspect the "rack & pinion" or one of the tie-rod ends, or even one of the ball joints. Some part is likely "frozen up". You should not plan to drive the car without this fixed.

Power steering went out on my 2002 pt cruiser

Please check the TYRE pressure if this seems OK then you must hoist the car and check the steering with the wheels up . If this is not found to be free the power steering section must be checked in detail starting from the drive, the hydraulics to the ball joint links. Loss of fluid or fault in pump cannot be ruled out. check the drive belt which if failed will be indicated.

Have you checked the relays? Fuses? Possibly a short in the wiring or clean all connections in any harnesses related to.. Have you had someone run the obd coses on this? sorry to hear it. its like having a child and never knowing when they are going to fall down.
Do you have the chiltons or haynes manual. Always a good investment

check power steering fluid if real real low you have a leak at hoses or pump seals.if all is good check for low tires and lack of lubrication to at ball joints and tie rod ends. if all is good you have power steering pump failure.
