I have a VW Passat 2000 1.9 tdi 116 CH. recently there is a ticking noise coming from the front part of the engine. my mechanic told me it is one of its lifters. has anyone got any idea of fixing it without having to open the engine.

Any advice would be very welcomed.

No, there is no check engine light on. The noise comes on all the time - in idel and during acceleration.

  • You really need not worry if its from VW. Just tell the managers that the job was done in an imperfect fashion.
  • If you have used any other mechanics to do it then, VW Passat of yours can't be fixed with cheap expense
  • Please tell me about your location and I will help you, Insha Allah

A knocking sound on my 98 vw passat engine and a ticking sound on the upper engine side - help

I fear the news is probably not good. Many Passats around 1998-2004 were badly affected by engine sludge even when oil changes were done regularly.

These noises usually mean that oil starvation has caused an engine bearing to fail, and also excessive wear in the camshaft area. If the sump is removed the sludge (if there) will be seen.

Sound left forward when crossing any ditches

Your front struts or strut is more than likely not working properly. They "bottom out" on rough roads, but can not hear them on smooth roads. I suggest taking the passat into a mechanic and have him check underneath. You can also do the "bounce" test. Have someone bounce up and down on the front while you sit in the drivers seat.

You should hear the same sound. The vw should also bounce up more than once before settling down.

Good luck

Loud clicking noise when steering wheel is turned in either direction past center. Same noise when travelling over rough road or bumps.

The loud clicking noise you described is most likely a worn CV joint in the axle. The noise on rough roads is likely a ball joint or upper control arm ( there are 4 of them on your passat ) .
I would take your car to an alignment shop for a thorough inspection. Don't take it to a VW dealership , they will overcharge you for the work. They quoted me 3 hours labour to replace an upper control arm ball joint. I did it my self in the driveway in 25 minutes.

Something knocking in a steering system on my 98 civic

Suspect worn outer cv joint. Check the boot for any tears, damage or leaking grease. If these are present your cv joint will fail soon if it hasn't already. If you put the car into reverse and turn the wheels to a hard lock a bad cv joint will make a popping grinding type sound. Try left and right turns when doing this test.

its probably your bump stops. the vw ones are very soft. i bought ford escort (the shape after the xr3) ones and cut them a little down to fit. i think the noise is either your shock touching or the sound of the tire scraping the body of the car. hope this helps.

Clicing noise when turning corners

drive shaft universals worn.check rubber boots ok with no splits or or leaking grease. If boots have split and dirt got in then change the ends only, but its possible to remove the end and by turning cage around extract the ball bearings, wash the lot out with diesel and fit a new boot and re pack with grease ---yes i know it could still knock a bit and fitting new yea yea but it might work and evan if their is a bit of noise on turn ignore it till it gets really bad as they could last another 100,000 kms
