Question about 1994 Chevrolet Camaro

3 Answers

Is this a good buy?

I am looking at buying a 1994 3.4 camaro for $1700 it has all the power options and is automatic. The 3.4 has 198k, i dont know how long the 3.4 usually runs for. He says (private seller) the alternator has been replaced, but not sure how long ago. He just replaced the drivers side window motor and says that the ac needs one more can of 134a. It looks fairly clean considering the year/miles. I am just hoping that someone who knows more about these cars than I do can give me so insight/advice. Thanks.

thank you for your advice. This car will not be my primary vehicle but a 3rd vehicle behind 2 family cars. I have no idea what the cost to rebuild a motor or the running cost of putting in a new motor, which i need to consider in factoring in a final cost to own. thanks again for your comment.

If you live in the north with mountains and snow then no, but if you live in the south where it usually warm and flat lands then hell yeah good deal, these engines last awhile if you maintain them properly, i currently have 275,488 miles on my 1993 camaro i bought it since new, yeah you will have to do maintanence i went through 2 alternators and 3 batteries, like 6 sets of tires, etc but that is just basic maintanence, i also replaced the clutch twice since it is a stick shift I replace that every 120k miles, I change my oil every 3000-5000 miles my engine is still clean. I also use BG product additives during oil changes also.

I'd bring it to a mechanic first but $1700 is a good price. The Kelly Blue Book for the car you described (unsure if its a z24 or a convertable which are worth more) the car is worth around $3000 in EX condition so if it checks out I'd say you've got a good deal
Caution:AC problems can be pricey, if R-134A is really inexspensive so gotta wonder why he didn't do it

198k is a lot of miles for any car, and chances are the car will soon demand substantial money for repairs; especially a new or rebuilt engine. You never know how well the previous owner has treated the vehicle, as is routine maintenance, and hard driving. The car may look and run well for now, but if you purchase it, plan on putting money into it.

I hope this information helps you, and do take time and consideration for your investment.

I want to ;buy a 94 caprice classic, but it looks like a piece of "****". both back windows dont go down, it needs a new shock in front, and i dont know if it will over heat in the summer when i...

depends on the mileage on it...and if the price is so cheap...?
- if the actual owner had it looking like a piece of s.... it is surely not well serviced and such a big car has many parts which could go broken after 21years of service....
- the rear windows are probably only locked (child safety)
better go for a smaller, newer car if you cannot fix anything by yourself...

Trying to start the car its like the timing is advanced so the motor dont turn freely this is a 94 camaro v6 automatic

it is possible that your timing is advanced . you timing chain may have jumped a tooth or two . the best way to find out if this the problem is to hook a timming light to it and check that way. or you can try loosening the bolt and turn your distrbutor back acouple of degrees and try to start your camaro. good luck

Check the VSS on the transmission (vehicle speed sensor). Also, I've had 5 of these 3rd gen Camaros so you need to invest in a good book (Haynes Manual).

93 camaro 3.4 sudden jerking, running rough

Sounds like a good tune-up and add a cleaner to your gas to keep the injectors clean. It will also help you on fuel.Camaro's vibrate when they go through transitions between gears. You should feel a pull to your back when accelerating. As you stated,"Ride it out and it will "come back" For a while.."If you are talking once you get to top speed, ease off the throttle and the power will come back to you. Also, make sure you keep a fresh oil change.Camaro's are high performance vehicles, so they will burn oil quicker. Have a nice day James

That is your check engine light. Use an OBD2 scan tool and find out what trouble code it is. After you find out what it is you will be able to shut it off. Hope this helps.
