Hi
Replace motor blower resistor about $20. This part is located by blower motor under glove box- very hard to replace due to little access. Good Luck.

1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GT - Blower Motor will not blow in the lower speeds, High Speed (5) only. Resistor has been replaced 3 times in the last twenty four hours, blower motor has been replaced twice in...

Your ignition switch is bogus. High speed runs directly off the speed control but the lower speeds go thru the ignition switch. Do not know why but that is the way it is!!!!!!!!
Replace the ignition switch and you will be back in business.

01 grand.prix ac fan switch only works on high. has a duel temp controller when you turn fan off the only way fan comes back on is to move the temp controller levers

Hi!!
When the Blower Motor Resistor (controls blower speeds) goes bad, the blower motor works only on HIGH SPEED. REPLACE IT.
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR Removal & Installation
  • Disconnect negative battery cable.
  • Remove right lower instrument panel insulator panel.
  • Disconnect blower resistor connector located behind right side of dash.
  • Remove blower resistor screws and blower resistor.
To install, reverse removal procedure
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!!

2001 pontiac grand prix, replaced blower motor, would only work on high, most of the time, at times it wouldn't work at all and when it did on high only. so I also replaced the resistor. I still only have...

Check for power at the HVAC CNTRL fuse with the blower set at any speed less than high speed. There should be power anytime the key is in the run position. If there is no power turn off the blower. If there is power with the blower off you need an ignition switch. The ignition switch is what supplies power to the lower speeds.

Indoor blower motor only works on high speed

There is a small resistor under the dash that has several wires going from it to the blower motor. This resistor bolts or screws into the large plastic duct that guides air to your feet. When they burn out or come unplugged, only high works because the resistor provides lower voltage for the lower speeds. It relies on the moving air in the duct to cool it and keep it from burning out. Ray (garage owner)

Blower fan only works on high

CHECK THE HVAC CTRL FUSE.

WITH A TEST LIGHT CHECK THE BLOWER RESISTOR FOR POWER ON THE YELLOW, TAN, PURPLE, AND LIGHT BLUE WIRES. THE ORANGE WIRES CONTROL THE HIGH SPEED CIRCUIT. DO THIS FOR EACH POSITION OF THE BLOWER SWITCH.

THE BROWN WIRE ON THE HVAC CONTROL CONNECTOR 1 POSITION B COMES FROM THE HVAC FUSE 20 AMP. NO POWER ON THAT WIRE WILL CAUSE THE BLOWER TO NOT FUNCTION ON THE LOWER SPEEDS.
