First, make certain the routing is correct. There is a label on the fan shroud or bottom side of hood near the latch that will show you the correct routing.
Second, if the new pump and or pulley ( if reused) is not aligned properly, the belt will "walk" off the pulley very quickly. Use a straight edge or ruler to make certain the power steering pulley is "square" with the rest of the pulleys.
Good luck, let me know.
Regards,

You most likely have to adjust the belt tension.

Very often its located at the alternator, you loosen a nut and pull the alternator back until desired tension is achieved then without releasing the alternator, tighten the nut back up.

maybe you did not hit every pulley the way you were supposed to, there should be a belt routing diagram under the hood on a sticker label, and if not then in your owners manual.

Sometimes there is an automatic tensioner pulley, or idler pulley. make sure you are on every pulley the way you need to be.

I hope this helps :)

ONE OF THE PULLEYS ARE WORN OUT AND NOT ALIGNED PROPERLY WITH THE OTHERS. LOOK AT THE TENSIONER AND IDLER PULLEYS. ONE OF THESE COULD BE THE CAUSE. REMOVE THE SERPENTINE BELT AND ROTATE THE PULLEYS BY HAND TO SEE WHICH ONE IS EITHER SQUEAKING OR LOOSE ON ITS BEARING. REPLACE THE BAD ONE AND YOU SHOULD BE ALL SET. HOPE THIS HELPS. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK

Did you open the hood? It could be a popped serpentine belt or a broken timing chain or timing belt.

GMC 3500 error message "Battery not charging" and lost all power steering and brakes. Is this the alternator?

You might want to pop the hood and make sure your serpentine belt is still there. If the belt snaps/breaks, your power steering pump, water pump, alternator, A/C compressor will all stop turning. That's where I would start.

Just a thought.... pull the serpentine belt off and see if you can pull the power steering pump pulley towards the front of the truck with your hands. If you can pop the pulley forward a quarter of an inch or so, the power steering pump shaft may be broken inside of the pump.

Serpentine belt keeps popping/slipping off

The power steering pump pulley must be flushed with the power steering pump shaft,Or else you will have noise or slips right off.12_11_2012_4_28_42_am.gif

Why is my serpentine belt shredding on my 1989 gmc sierra c2500

Mine was doing the same thing. I realized that one of the support brackets for the power steering pump was brocken allowing the pump to pull slightly away from the engine moving the belt out enough to be cut by the other pullies. I hope this helps! Good luck!

2500 4x4 2003 GMC - When I push on the brake to turn a corner, I loose power steering until I give it some gas.

Sounds like a slick or worn serpentine belt or low level in the power steering pump. A bad belt will grab just enough at higher speeds not to impact the power steering or other accessories but not at lower speeds.

Where is the ac compressor belt located?

The A/C compressor belt is integrated with the serpentine belt also. The serpentine belt runs the A/C compressor, water pump, power steering pump, and alternator. Hope this helps. Good luck.
