Lets give Anguss693 a round of applause! Thats like asking what to do when the light bulb has blown! How did you get GURU and Expert status? Your reason for the problem also is incorrect. The switch is designed that it cannot be overpressed.

The problem is carbon or calc buildup on the contacts. If the others all work fine and the faulty one works intermittently, then this is the cause. Subaru technicians, I wouldn't call any dealer a mechanic, would never know or even have experience fixing such a thing. They are all parts fitters, diagnosing the issue from either a computer or a checklist of known problems, often changing 2,3 or even 4 parts before finding the faulty component. All of which you pay for. This issue as Anguss "Solved" would be treated as a throw away part worth maybe $400 for a new one.

Removal of the part is easy, first the screw in the door trim pull cup. Then the whole insert should lift and underneath you can then disconnect the wiring harness to the switch module.

Unscrew the philips screws holding the switch module in and remove that being carefull to release easing the unit off its clips.

Disassembly of the module requires a bit of confidence and be sure to do it over a white sheet or towel or piece of paper to make finding small parts easy. Clean the contacts with 800grit sand paper wrapped around a toothpick or ice cream stick, being carefull to clean only the contact areas. Methylated spirit may be used to clean the area before and after as to reduce the risk of oil from your fingers accelerating future damage. You can use vaseline to re-lubricate the component or lithium grease if handy.

N.B. Impreza's have an issue with the water dripping into the switch panel from an open window, so be mindful of that.

I have a 2005 Mazda 3. The driver's side power window won't go down...the other 3 windows do (from the left door power switch). When I try to open the driver's window, I hear a noise...maybe like a motor switch?

Power window won't work

if its just one window thats not working then more than likely its the motor. but try operating the window from the switch that operates that window (i e)left rear window left window switch if it works from the window switch then its the master switch thats bad but if it dosent work then its the motor more than likely.
