The Piston should have inset slots that you need a specialty tool to fit into. the piston should turn clockwise to get it in.

Open the bleeder screw to relieve the pressure and then press the piston in. Then close the screw and intall the pads. Dont forget to top off your brake fluid reservoir when your done.

I can't colapse the rear calipers and they are off the car


the rear calipers screw in on many poniac products. there should be a slot on the face of the piston for a special tool to turn them in, but i've used a pair of channel locks before.

The rear brakes on the 2004 need to be compressed with a special tool available at any parts store. You need to "screw" the caliper piston in instead of pushing it in with the "C" clamp.

Breaks on a 2006 Grand Prix


Rear disc brakes have to also apply the parking brakes.
To do that, they must not retract too far.
That is accomplished with a one way ratched down the center of the piston, on the back side.
So most rear pistons have to be rotated CW in order to retract down this spiral ratchet.
Not sure exactly how Pontiac works, but there is probably a large slot in the piston to allow for this.

DONT KNOW HOW TO REMOVE THE BREAK CALIBER


To remove the caliper, you need a torx head tool (can't remember exact size) to remove the two slide pin bolts.(inside the two small rubber boots at each end of caliper) After getting them loose, remove the brake hose, then remove bolts and caliper. (don't loose the two copper washers...if they aren't in the new caliper box you will need them.) Check and see if the caliper retracts easily after it is removed. If it does, the rubber brake hose may have internally failed and is your problem. If piston is very hard to move, get a new caliper. Replace both side brake pads, not just side you are workingon. (recommend both calipers as well but most times it works fine with one.
When replacing, make sure slides are free in calipers and thread pins by hand so that you don't cross thread them. After it's back together bleed front brakes and before moving car step on brake to re-set pistons.

You need a spanner tool. You have to rotate the piston clockwise until it screws back into the calipier. DO NOT USE A C CLAMP as this will brake the calipier.

On the rear calipers you need to screw the piston back into place. There is a tool nicknamed a rubik's cube. That will plug into the piston and you hook up a 3/8 inch ratchet and screw it back in while pushing inward. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WMR-W80621
