You will need to remove anything interfering with a balancer removal tool. You will need to remove the drive belt and belt pulley from the balancer as well as the balancer center bolt. You can't remove it without taking anything apart, but with any luck you won't have to remove too much!!!

Removing harmonic balacer

Hi Michael, I'm glad to help!
Michael, The bolt come off "COUNTER CLOCKWISE"
Here's a little tip on how to lossen it. Take a long "Breaker Bar" put it on the bolt head. NOTE: Only use a short "Impact Socket" The handle of the Breaker Bar must be pointing toward the front of the vehicle and must be able to touch the floor. NOW, bump the KEY to the start position and the Breaker Bar will loosen the bolt. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Michael.

Need to know the timing marks for timing belt

1.9L the camshaft gear has an arrow bumped up from it's center. This arrow lines up with a dot on the cylander head. A mirror placed in front of the camshaft gear may help see the arrow and dot. The crankshaft mark is a bump up on the washer between the hamonic balancer and the timming belt gear. This bump is lined up with the middle slot of the indicator located right above the crankshaft and between the timingbelt. this mark is tough to see with the harmonic balacer still installed but can be seen with a little mirror. Another way to find TDC for the crank is on the harmonic balacer there is a sensor ring it looks like a gear with a tooth missing. T he sensor ring should be 9 teeth to the left from the space from missing tooth. If one way doesn't line up and the other way does then you need a harmonic balancer.

Cannot remove a harmonic balacer from a 1995 nissan pickup truck. the pulley keeps spinning when i try to open the the bolt.any easy way to open it?

you will need to lock the pulley. if its a manual trans put it in 4th gear and apply the brakes, if its a auto trans, you will need to find a way to hold the pulley. 1 trick, but I dont recommend it, is to attach a long breaker bar and socket, and brace it along the frame, and bump the key/starter, that will get it off. the engine is going to go clockwise, so brace it so the bar is against the frame going that direction.

1997 LeSabre has engine "knock"

If it knocks at 50 it will knock sitting still if you race it up. Is the oil pressure good? These motors hardly ever have a bearing problem. The only knock problem was the harmonic balacer that comes apart and knocks. The rubber falls apart and it will make a knock sound all the time, more with the ac on. If you have a knock at 50 or highway speed only you may need a outer tie rod end only. Get the front end checked as they will make a knocking sound on the highway. reply

Car shuts off while driving wont start up until cools off engine not running hot 99 pontiac grand prix

You need to replace your crankshaft position sensor located by the harmonic balacer. These sensors heat up and cut off the engine until the sensor cools down. This happens with age and it is not specific to GM.

if you can turn the serpentine belt either direction by hand at all you probably need a harmonic balancer..or just look in the passenger wheelwell at the h/balencer and see if the rubber is cracked all the way around.. just fixed one with that issue
