1 Answer

1997 chevy cav. 2.4l acting up in the idle position.

When i start the car warm or cold it runs fine for a minute and then bogs down to 500 rpm and shoots up to 2000 rpms and it will do that for a minute a or two and then its ok. it will start fine. i have checked and cleaned injecters, thottle body, fuel rail, the plugs are new but black, and replaced fuel filter, and there is no check engin light. so what else is there.

SOUNDS LIKE THE IDLE SENSOR IS FAILING. IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. CAN BE FOUND AT MOST AUTO PARTS STORES. THIS DEVICE IS LOCATED ON THE THROTTLE BODY. AN ILLUSTRATION CAN BE FOUND AT THE PARTS PLACE TO BE SURE THAT WHAT YOU ARE REPLACING IS CORRECT. HOPE THIS HELPS. KEEP ME POSTED PLEASE. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA.

Check the coolant temp. sensor (It controls warm up RPM, open loop ECU mode) And change the fuel filter every 20,000 miles to prevent water in filter from freezing ( fuel starvation).

Chevy Malibu Cold Idle Problem

Check the water coolant thermostat. If it is stuck in the "open" position you are heating up all the water in the coolant system and this will take time. The thermostat keeps the water in the engine until warmed up to almost normal running temperature, only then does it allow the coolant to enter the radiator.

1996 Chevy Express 1500 w/5.0 bogging only when warm.

The cylinder 7 misfire is likely a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself.

Typically, the catalytic converter has an oxygen sensor in front and behind it. When the vehicle is warm and running in closed loop mode, the upstream oxygen sensor waveform reading should fluctuate. The downstream 02 sensor reading should be fairly steady. Typically the P0420 code triggers the check engine light if the readings of the two sensors are similar. This is indicative of (among other things - such as faulty sensors in the "emissions loop") a converter that is not working as efficiently as it should be.

I do not believe that it is a problem with a valve/head gasket or cam.

Idle fluctuates

Its could be a few things. Most likely cause is you IAC (Idle air control valve) If this valve gets clogged up with carbon it will cause a idle surge on cold starts like you are describing.

Next your FITV (fast idle thermal valve). When the hot wax inside of this valve starts to wear it will cause a idle surge on cold starts.
