Question about 1990 Honda Prelude
I am changing the fuel filter on my 1989 honda prelude si. it states in the owners manual that it should be done at the shop because the fuel system is under pressure. how can the pressure be releived so i can change it myself.
The built up pressure is about 6 p.s.i., you can relief the pressure by first unscrewing your gas cap and that familiar "hiss" sound is the pressure escaping from the tank. The fuel filter is in the engine compartment on the passenger side mounted on the firewall. You should see 2 hoses. I needed a 10mm & 17mm socket & wrench. You should see a small scew (10mm) on top of the hoses. There's residual pressure in the filter so you'll need a rag to mop up any gas that spills over. Take off the hoses (17mm) but be careful not to loose any of the brass washers on the top & bottom of the hose. Take off the mount if it helps you repositon & replace the filter. Screw everything back and that's it!

You can pull fuel injector fuses and remove the gas cap but try to start it a few times so it relieves the pressure that was there...if it does not work on some honda i put a rag underneath the fuel rail and open the large bango nut that connects the line to the fuel rail just crack it 3/4 turn till it leaks a little and let it squirt out the pressure just wear eye protection its pretty easy fuel filter to do..
