Question about 1999 Chevrolet Astro

Temp gauge not working, DRL not working

I have a 1000 Astro with 145,000; the temp gauge is not working at all, I have not tried any troubleshooting at all, not sure where to start. The DRL is not working either and have not tried anything to solve this either.

when A/C off, radiator fan does not turn on automatically ... to overheating (assumed to be correct as temperature gauge appears working when car is warming up) .... In mycase, the fans run, but the engine still overheats.

Why does my temp gauge rise to hot when the van is off - but as soon as the key is switched on it goes back to the cold end of the temp gauge

The gauge is unpowered when you turn the key off, so the needle can go wherever it wants to. When you turn the key on, the gauge gets power and will show the actual engine coolant temperature.

1989 chevy astro van tempsensor

The sensor is what talks to the CPU not the temp gauge. You must be using a fair bit of fuel as it will be running rich all the time. Fix the sensor and run fault codes

Temp. gauge does not work at all.

You need to perform some electrical troubleshooting to see if the temp gauge circuit is getting voltage to the sending unit and the gauge; and/or if the gauge itself is faulty.

More info? Let me know...

No heat

As for the fan your blower resistor is in need of replacement.
To address the heat problem I'll need to know a couple of things
1. Does your vans temp gauge read in the normal range or is it running low(after you've driven it for at least 10 min
2. Is the out side temp really cold?
