1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2. is firing order, distributor rotates clockwise. Standing in front of, right side 1,3,5,7. left, 2,4,6,8.

- Been there, done that, in the earlier years. One thing good to know for future. When your wondering which cylinder is # 1, on any V-6 or V-8 engine, stand beside front of engine, (fender) look across front & whatever cylinder head sticks out the farthest towards front of vehicle, that is # 1.on that side.

- Set your timing marks at TDC on compression stroke & distributor rotor should be pointing at #1 wire terminal on cap.

- As mentioned above. Your rotor under cap will be pointing at #1 if your at "top Dead Center" on compression stroke. When your sure you've found #1, next one going clockwise beside #1 is # 8, then next one clockwise is # 4, then 3, 6, 5 ,7 ,2. Have a look at how far the wire has to go, from cap to spark plug to determine the best suited length.
