Question about 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage

1 Answer

The front doors on my 2001 Mitsu Mirage ES need adjusting. They have "moved" (probably due to a wreck that I was not told of when I purchased the car) and I can hardly open them (after I put another 80k miles on the car - 165k total). I can open them just enough to squeeze in. Any further has caved in the panel on the car just ahead of the door. I need to do the adjustment myself ($ issue) but I have not found any info on how to do this.

Most cars you can only move the doors up and down, not forward and back. You most likely need to adjust the fender if that is what is hitting.

I am trying to change my 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage (w/ ac) alternator belt. I loosened the tensioner, took out the top - bottom and inside bolt of the ac compressor to take off the first belt and even took...

BEFORE ADJUSTING THE ALTERNATOR BELT DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE OR YOU MIGHT BLOW AN EXPENSIVE HIDDEN FUSE.
I would replace the steering pump belt at the same time you do the alternator belt (buy both).
To take off the alternator belt .
First , take off the negative battery cable so you do not blow an expensive fuse on the positive battery cable clamp(or a block fuse under the hood). Facing the back of the automobile , reach UNDER the alternator and loosen the bolt on the bottom right side, now loosen the bolt on the adjuster block on top, you can now turn the adjuster bolt and move the alternator to change the belt.
To take off the steering pump belt on the front of the motor, you need to loosen the nut on the back side of the pulley (right side of pump mount), the nut holds the adjuster pulley in place . With the adjuster pulley nut loose , you can use the adjuster bolt to move the pulley to adjust/take off the steering pump belt.

How to remove the dash

Which part of the dash board are you trying to remove? Are you trying to get to the CD Player? If that's the area you are talking about its simple,
1) remove the ash tray first: Pull tray outwards and then press the lever that you seen inside the tray..the big silver thing.
2) Remove lighter switch.
3) Use a screwdriver to pry the SIDE-TOP part of the panel out. That's it. It will pop out.

I've done this on my car.

If its another part of the dash board, sorry for this reply.
