I have a '93 Honda prelude, and recently it has developed a strange squeak. It happens whenever I drive it, it doesn't seem to get worse when I go over speed bumps. I think it's getting worse too. It's coming from somewhere near the front left wheel.
Can you describe the squeak?
Does it happen more when you turn a certain direction?
Try just pushing down on the front left of your car and let it bounce up and down, does it squeak?
I would say its probably mounts, there are usually rubber stoppers on shocks, mounts, well just about everything in suspension has a rubber bushing or stopper to reduce noise and rattling, they may squeak from time to time.
Check your shock absorbers for leaks, look for loose bolts on the suspension and steering components. If you think it may be a rubber bushing, you can get a can of dressing for belt squeals and spray down the bushings, this will eliminate the bushings being the problem.
If it is constant, all the time, whenever you drive it. It could be a fan belt or a timing belt (if the front of your engine is on the left side [assuming you have a transversely mounted engine / front wheel drive])
Check the tension on the belt maybe it is loose.
Hope this is helpful to you.
Yeah, if it is a metallic squealing noise it is most likely your brake pad squeal tab contacting the brake rotor telling you to get new pads.
Does the noise worsen when you brake?
If the brakes are only 6 months old, it's highly unlikely they are worn out. Also, if the noise stays the same at any amount of brake application, I would say it's something else. I'm sure your mechanic will find the squeak!
I don't think you need to worry about CV joints, bad CV joints make clicking, clucking, and popping sounds and it is when turning not when going straight.
Good luck! Hope this helped

It could probabely be the brake pads ,some cars have worning light come on and others have this little projection of steel piece working as warning tht the pads needs replacement.
Remove the front wheel andyou will be able to see the brake calipers and the pads.
Good luck.

Thanks so much for your replies...
My brakes are pretty new, about 6 months old...
I don't think it happens when i turn a certain direction, just when i'm
traveling straight. It doesn't happen when i push down on the car and
bounce on it...
And the noise doesn't change when i brake.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'm trying to convince my mechanic to have
a good look at it but he just says to turn the radio up :( I've been
worried about it because I've heard horror stories of these sort of
squeaks happening when theres a problem with the CV joint. I just got
the left one replaced too!
Thanks so much for the suggestions, I'm gonna take them to my mechanic tomorrow.
Sorry if i'm not very good at describing it, to tell you the truth I
know NOTHING about cars... and it frustrates the hell out of me!
:)
Does the noise change or disappear when brakes applied?
car squeaks when turning left
