Question about 1996 Pontiac Grand Am
Started with hard starting. Dashboard lights, lighting up like x-mas tree. Has fuel; no spark; no codes. Replaced ignition module. Checked grounds. Car does have water issues on passenger side. Checked computer connections. Looked for interior grounds, do not know if there is another possible ground that I am missing. When it did start, the dashboard lights went out and it would run fine. Now it won't start at all, but it does crank.I don't have a clue as to what is wrong. Help!
We have a 1996 Grand am SE 6 cyl with similar problem. If yours is a 6 cyl check your crank sensors. There are 2 of them, one behind the Vibration damper and one on the back of the block that has a yellow / purple wire to the Ignition Control Module. Haynes manual electrical diagram call this one an Ignition Timing Sensor, but it is a Crank Sensor at the parts stores. I would check this one first. You should also check your coils and Ignition Switch and Knock Sensor. You can get a Haynes repair manual from Advanced auto that will explain how to test these items. Good Luck.
