I just dropped the pan and replaced the filter and gasket. I ran good for about 30 mins then same problem. My engine does not overheat. No it does not have an external cooler. Thinking about getting it flushed completly first.

When was last transmission service? Is the engine running hot? Fluid level checked I hope. Have it scanned for free at autoparts store like autozone, or pep boys & see if any codes come up. Possible it may be time for an external cooler, or does it already have one?

Sounds like a plugged trans cooler.have it checked for proper flow should be less than 10-15psi if so it needs to be replaced. check to see if the trans cooler lines go into the radiator. if so you will either have to replace the radiator (trans cooler is part of radiator) or buy and install an aftermarket cooler

The od light comes on the the transmission temp warning comes on in my 2000 dodge durango

Check transmission fluid level. Is there a manual Overdrive engagement button? If so you probably have a worn out wire from the switch to overdrive solenoid. I had a similar problem different car. Solution was the "spiral plastic" wire cover to cover the opening on the control wire and easy to get on the wire without having to cut and rejoin wires. Was supposed to be temporary but has lasted about 5 years. This may also be the issue with the Temp warning light. The wires may be parallel to each other. Hope this helps, good luck.

Transmission wiring harness

It would probably never work. Your whole drivetrain is set up to work with the factory installed engine and transmission. A plain jane transmission will drive your computers crazy, and you might never get out of limp home mode.

I have a dodge 4x4 1500 the trans temp light comes as well as the over drive off light when vehicle is at an idle i then lose overdrive. vehicle is only at an idle for 2 or 3 min. havent even started to...

There is a check valve in the transmission cooling lines on these trucks. This valve is in the line near the radiator on the passenger side. This valve can get stuck and cause the Trans to overheat due to no trans cooler flow. When these Transmission get hot overdrive goes out. Located this valve take the line apart near it and use a small screwdriver and try to free it up. It is spring loaded and should push in and spring out easily. If you can't you must replace it. Don't drive it like that or you could ruin the transmission

Trans temp and od light is on what does this mean

Transmission Temperature light only comes on when the transmission has reached the operating limits and tells the temp sender to send a warning. The OD light is the Over Drive light.
There may be several reasons causing the Trans. Temp light to come on. The first would be if the transmission is low on transmission fluid.
Place you vehicle on a level surface. You can check this by letting the vehicle warm up to normal operating temperature, then open the hood and remove the transmission dipstick and wipe it clean with a paper towel or shop rag. Then reinsert it and remove it again, holding it horizontal look at the end of the dipstick. You will see a level mark and a add mark. If it's on the add mark then you need to add transmission fluid. Do not add more then 8 ounces at a time, before rechecking the level.
If the fluid is full, smell the fluid on the dipstick, does it have a burnt smell?
If the fluid has a burnt smell or it's a dark brown color then you will need to change the transmission fluid and filter.
The Overdrive light is on due to high transmission temp or because the Overdrive button has been pushed. ( If equipped with a manual overdrive button)
When the transmission is hot it will turn the overdrive off to increase the speed and pressure of the transmission fluid to help cool the transmission.
So this problem will go hand in hand if you find a problem with the transmission fluid.
You can also take you vehicle to you local auto parts store and have them check the engine codes. There may be another problem causing this issue.

Transmission temp gauge and O/D light come on 2000 Durango.

Sounds like an overheated transmisson. The overdrive and temp lights are on because the overdrive is disabled due to a problem. There is a thermistor in the valve body that illuminates that light when the trans fluid temp gets too high. Check the fluid level and condition, If it's dark red and not pink in color it's burnt, which generally means that the clutches are smoked too. Probably time for a remanufactured transmisson.

Transmission temp light comes on and kicks o/d off? any suggestions

i suggest to have the transmission fluid and filter changed and also have a Transmission cooler installed because transmissions and heat are not a good combination. Heat is the reason over 75% of the transmissions fail and the reason it is shutting your overdrive off is because it is a safty feature in the transmission. see your overdrive is the weakest spot in a transmission due to the size of the clutches and the drums so this is usually the first spot the transmissions have problems and also the reason you never ever pull anything while you are in overdrive if you pull a boat or any trailer make sure you shut your over drive offf while pulling.
