My friend you are faced with a catch 22 problem. The first thing I would like to know is, who installed the alarm system? Did you do it or was it professionally installed. If it wwas professionally installed I would go right back there and discuss the problem with them. It very well could be a defective unit. If you did not have it installed professionally I would disconnect the alarm and see if your battery still get's drained. If so, then the alarm is not the culprit, and you have some hunting to do. If not then you have some testing to do.Next what type of alarm is it? Try to google it. You may be able to find a trouble shooting guide to assist you. I know that you said you just replaced the battery, but the alarm very well may not be the culprit. It could be many other things as a loose fanbelt, bad diodes in your alternator, or some other componet draining your battery.

I was wondering if my advice has helped you at all. I've run into simular problems before. Once with my dad's truck and it was defective unit, and once with my wife's car, which I ended up trouble shooting by contacting the manufacturer's website. By the way, both units were professionally installed.

After I changed the battery in my 97 jetta gt alarm went off finally got it disabled by unlocking passenger door but now car won't start or even turn over how do I fix this

Your electrical system surged. Had the same happen on a 97 Golf. Start by replacing fuses connected to your starter and engine systems. If nothing happens, you may have to hit a VW repair shop for a systems reset, unfortunately.

I have a 1997 vw cabrio. i replaced my battery n when i hook up the battery my alarm goes off n my driver side lock cylinder fell out how do i disarm my alarm?

You need to bypass the alarm if you do not have the remote to disable it and the key lock fell out. I have posted multiple times about how to bypass the stock alarm and still have everything work. If you need any help on doing this please feel free to message me.

We have a 1997 VW Jetta. The alarm system initiates occasionally when we drive it and causes the horn to blow and the lights to flash. How can we either fix the problem or disarm the alarm system.

sounds like the alarm unit/imobileser might be faulty. my one did this on warm days when it was standing in the sun for long.

the unit is behind the glove compartment. as i know a bit of electronics i opened mine and found that there were a few dry joints. resoldered it and it was all good to go. soldering cost about R10 and new unit would have cost between R500 to R3000(used or new) (im in south africa)

Is there a way to disarm the alarm system in the 1996 vw jetta? I'm having a lot of trouble with the alarm light staying on after I turn off the engine and take out the key. Then the light won't go off...

In a word NO,without totally destroying the computerised ignition system.only way is to use the remotes to arm/disarm the system(if you havnt got them you will NEED to buy them and get them coded to the car.takes 30 minites max.to reset see my jetta hints......

Connect the battery and press the button on the key fob. If that does not work, try starting the car.

it sounds like one of the sensors for your alarm is faulty. I'd recommend taking it to a reputable mechanic, or calling one to see what they say. The alarm systems on 97 Jettas are tricky business.
