Question about 1997 Chevrolet Blazer

1 Answer

Ignition lock cylinder keeps blowing

I own a 1997 chevy blazer, 4x4, and my ignition switch/ lock cylinder keeps blowing, resulting in i cannot get my key out of the ignition, and my check engine light is on, and my blazer does not start in first gear, when i go, it starts out in 2nd or third gear. The switch blew about three months ago, and i replaced it with a brand new one, and it blew again, so i am looking for a reason why it keeps blowing on me. any ideas?

okay, but i know it is the switch, cuz it happened to me before, and i replaced the ignition switch, and it was fine. and now it blew again, so all i wanna know is what would blow it?

I don't think the key and tumbler is your problem at all. The switch is down on your steering column. It's either loose and sliding around when the rod pulls, or it's wrecked. They can cause all kinds of problems. Just drop your steering column and take a look.

Okay , sorry. I didn't realize you understood that. The only thing i can think of is proper adjustment when you install the new one. It might be pulling too far.

Oops! i was thinking of the wrong truck. Anyway, i have heard that those ones have problems in the shifter, that can cause problems with the switch. Might want to check that out.

Hi i have a 01 chevy blazer 4x4 4.3l that keeps blowing the ignition fuse when i turn the key to accesory. Could be a relay maybe? Short in the wiring?

it is possibly a short circuir or faulty ignition switch, also check that nothing has accidently fallen into the cigarette lighter socket, a screw or money or something like that......hope this helps.......cheers.

How do I remove the steering wheel from a 1997 Chevy blazer?

Hi,

If you are trying to remove the steering wheel to change the ignition switch, then you may not have to. The switch is on the steering column about 1/2 down towards the floor, and has a rod that runs from the key cylinder & locking part. You dont need to remove the steering wheel, but if you do so, I suggest you to take some help from some Paint and Body shop so that they can direct you to do it properly and safely.

Do let me know if it helped.

My 1997 chevy blazer does not have a 4wheel drive switch

If there is no switch present then it is full time 4X4, it does not disengage, good for travel bad for fuel mileage.

Ignition switch

You wrote ignition switch/lock cylinder. Which part did you replace? The ignition switch or the ignition lock cylinder? The electrical ignition switch is what is bad.

1999 Chevy S10 Blazer 4x4. Replacing rear pad's,& Bleeding Breaks

have one person in the blazer pumping the brake pedal and then hold to the floor, crack the bleeder then tighten, release pedal, repeat till all air is out one side at a time, if this does not work then your ABS unit is bad witch if u follow your lines from your master cylinder u will find a black box with a motor on it, or the master cylinder itself is bad, it also can cause u to have no pedal, replace the master cylinder first, most likely cheaper.
