Before you go and spend all that hard earn money, buy a CD player cleaner at Radio Shack, or The Source if your in Canada.
I believe there in the clearance bin most of the time for $4.99 if it's your lucky day.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Sounds like one of too things, the laser eye is misaligned or the CD does not spin fast enough. Some electronic shop still do factory stereo repairs.

I had skipping problem with mine and I went to the Salvage Yard and picked one up for $40.00 with 120 day warranty while I went and got the broken one repaired.

It was easy, just plug in the new replacement without cutting wires and I still have the original stereo I had repaired in the closet for over 10 years.

Good luck and hope this helps save some money, Check before you go through all that, see if the warranty to you mountaineer is still cover and does it include the stereo.

It is an easy fix in about 10 to 15 minutes. I am a 50 year old WOMAN who has done this at least 3 times on my Moutaineer.

You need to pull the front cover off the center of the dash, the part that goes around the CD player and over the vents. You will have to unplug 2 multi-line wires underneath - one is for the CD and one is for the airbags. The center piece will pull out pretty far, but it will help if someone can hold it out for you, as you now need to undo the screws holding the CD player into the dash frame. Once you pull it clear, you should be able to look in it and see a mis-aligned disc. Reach in with a screw driver and push it back in line, it should set back in with a light push. Plug the CD player back in, turn it on and eject the CD's to ensure they are all aligned. If it still says BAD CD, then unplug, and try pushing again, sometimes it will take a couple of tries to get all the CD's seated correctly. My battery CD during a CD change, so one got stuck and would not move. The first place I took it charged me $100 for a replacement.

How do I replace disc breaks on 2006 mercury mountaineer

Watch You Tube Video

You will need Metric Hex Drivers to get Calipers off

Front & back are different size

Do you have any brake service experience or vehicle
experience,if you have to ask,may not be up to knowing
what needs to be done

You don't just hang pads, there is a lot of work there, removing
rust & having the rotors machined & special lube in various
places

Have to bleed the system every 2 years or your in for big problems

Have to replace trans & power steering fluids every 3 years or
those systems fail

Getting a code P0420 on my 2006 V8 Mountaineer

PO420-"Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 1".Most likely you have a bad O2 sensor on bank 1(driver's side). There are 2,replace them both to make it easier.(My guess is the sensor before the catalytic converter is the bad one,if you want to try just one.)

6 disc cd changer jammed in 2004 mercury mountaineer, says error when i try to eject or play jammed discs.

personally I used another not so valuable CD to push the jammed CD back, it appears the ejected CD may bump the open exit gate and get stalled. It has happened several times. Good luck

inspect the door switches for a stuck or closed switch. I would remove & reinstall each switch until the light goes off. Replace culprit switch. retest for normal operation

Six-disc cd player

I too have this problem. My alternator went out, however and when starting the car after having that replaced it must have reset my CD player and it worked again for about 2 months. I am back to the CD error again tho. Thinking of un-hooking my battery cables to see if that will reset it again.
