The flashing overdrive light indicates a code for the transmission you need to have your codes read to see what is causing the problem

416 backhoe won't go in reverse, Where is reverse solenoid lodated

Early model 416's were mechanical linkage to the control spool. Later models added solenoids to shift forward and reverse. This has a block with solenoids on each end.
All models have a separate solenoid for neutralizer function control by the push button on the speed control shift lever and loader control lever.
They are different were as some used current through the push buttons for the disconnect neutralizer solenoid and later models use current through the push buttons to power the transmission shifter.
When a failure occurred in the neutralizer circuit or a push button stuck, early models only need to disconnect the push buttons to make the transmission work but, later models must have a jumper installed to bypass the push buttons and keep power to the transmission control lever.
Current models are all controlled by an ecm.
An easy test to see if the transmission solenoids (if you have them) is to place a screw driver tip on the end to see if it is magnetized when you place it in forward or reverse.
All models also have a front wheel drive solenoid but, it is located in different areas for different models.
Test the push buttons to see if you have one stuck. Then check the wiring to see if the circuit is the problem. If you have the electric shift control handle, check the fuse first, the inspect the wire and circuits. If this is controlled with an ecm, you can still check the shift control wiring but, to test the ecm, a service call to the dealer is needed. Some models did include a red light in the fuse panel area to indicate an active fault is in the ecm circuit.

My 99 ford ranger keeps blowing fuse # 27. Utube video said in column, scuffed wires to O/D buttonn dismantled column, no scuffed wires Where do I look next?

This fuse also powers , transmission control switch , DRL module , back up lights switch , digital transmission range sensor and the pulse vacuum hublock solenoid .
DRL module is daytime running lamp module . look at the transmission range sensor . Disconnect thing's one at a time till fuse no longer blows or disconnect everything an then replace fuse the connect thing's one at a time till it blows , then you found your problem circuit .

1995 ford f-150 gear shift has overdrive light flashing off. What causes this & how do I get it to quit flashing.

http://www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=48477 is a place you can see what the problem can mean? Basically you have a malfunction that the transmission is warning you about!
Try resetting the trouble codes by disconnecting the + & - battery terminals and touching them together for about 15 seconds to remove any residual energy from the computer system! Connect your battery and test drive the vehicle if it goes out and stays off then your problem may have been due to a stopped up filter or an error in shifting the transmission into neutral from drive or reverse with the engine accelerated causing the torque converter to suddenly lose pressure possibly causing damage? Go to autozone and as long as the light is flashing or check engine light is on they can retrieve the codes for free! Then if you have mechanical problems you would be saving money if you pull the transmission yourself and have it fixed or go to a transmission shop who can save you time and do everything but get ready to shell out $700- $1,000 to rebuild it!

My 1995 nissan quest overdrive light comes on when i start it and it wont go in drive but will 2nd gear, sometime on can turn the van off and restart and it will go in drive and shift ok but it shifts...

Sounds like the sensor for first gear.
The transmission comes with a shift sensor for each shift: if 4 shift, 4 sensor (including reverse).
Have somebody check the sensors and the cpu for the tranny. They go hand to hand.

I just got O/D off light on in my 1998 Toyota Corolla. What to do

hello subir. This is the over drive function. someone may have accidentally pushed this button so to turn it off you will have to find it and push it again. there is a Overdrive button somewhere on the shifter. It is probably on the side of the actual handle or down near the 4-speed gear numbers, sometimes even in the end of the shifter..

O/D off is NOT a big problem at all- you just don't want to use it all of the time because it runs your engine a lot harder because you are always in a lower gear. That would be used if you were driving up a big hill, for example, and don't want it staying in the highest gear. It gives you more power in circumstances like that

1992 Ford F250 Diesel does not engage in any gear including reverse. Any suggestions?

there is a part of the linkage in the steering column, that wears and or breaks,a steering colmn specialist can check this for you and replace it if that is the problem
if that is not the problem, it sounds like you need to take to a transmission mechanic.QUESTION: is the overdrive light on gear shift flashing/ if it is flashing, the problem is definetly in the transmission, not the linkage

Overdrive button on extend cab ford f150

Problem Solved Look No Longer. Overdrive switch fuse blown, auto door locks not working, fuse after fuse after fuse, chasing wires grrrr. Remove the steering column cover (3 screws from the bottom) opens like a **** shell. Your switch is located on the shift lever, the wire for the switch is routed through the handle and comes out where the shift lever mounts to the column. Look very closely at the wire in this area. Most likely rubbed through. MR
