If the torque converter is faulty it will be noise all the time and if the oil pump is faulty there will be no gear changes at all as the bands and clutch pack would not work. IT may be a faulty torque converyer clutch servo and that would be picked up by having the fault codes read

Have a pressure test done on the transmission to check for internal problems. You may need a band /clutch pack adjustment as it may be slipping a bit before engagement. May a good service will fix the faults as dark tan oil is a sign of troubles inside.

SOURCE: hard down shift

I've read article after article on Chrysler forums where anything other than Autopar ATF in their transmissions cause problems, erratic shifting, etc, including what your experiencing. The techs that deal with it daily through Chrysler/Dodge shops, say there is some properties or chemicals in Autopar fluid, that others just don't have, no matter what they say, and they have proven it, time after time, with symptoms that disappear, just by changing fluids to Autopar. My wife's relatives own one of the more respected & trusted repair shops in our area, and they swear by that rule too, because they've also experienced it in the past. I'm naturally assuming you know that your experienced enough to know how to install filter properly & what to watch for, so with that said, I hate to say it, but Mopar ATF4 is the one & only fluid for best results. P.S. I recently had my transmission with 260,000km. replaced at Ontario Reman, whom back when I was with Chrysler, was the sole supplier of rebuilt engines & transmissions for Chrysler. When I questioned them on the fluid in my new/rebuild they responded with same answer, Mopar ATF and nothing else. If you do some googling on it, you'll find many that went to quick lube or similar for same service only to experience shifting problems etc after. Switched back to autopar as advised & problems went away. Can't say 100% that's your problem, but if it were me, I'd change it.

SOURCE: 2003 Caravan transmission issue

Sounds like your trans is stuck in limp in mode. Could be something simple as a sensor, or something major as the trans or the computer. Will need to be computer diagnosed.

SOURCE: shift gear is locked cannot shift out of park gear

I had the same problem but my cousing, who is a mechanic, opened the whole thing up and removed the safety catch. Now, this is not the best of ideas because the car will shift now without your foot being on the brake but I have had it this way for a while and no troubles shifting in or out anymore.

SOURCE: My 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan makes Whining Noise

Depending on your mileage, if the transmission is mounted side ways (Front wheel Drive) the upper or top, or rear mount can wear out. This causes the engine and transmission to twist binding the linkage on the transmission, However I have not see a 2007 and if it was bad the drive train should still be under warranty if it's not over 100,000 miles. The tork on the other mounts could cause this noise you are speaking of. Also they use oil filled mounts to isolate the engine pulses so when the oil leaks out the motor mount goes metal to metal. However I think the brakes not holding tight so in theory a motor mount could cause this could cause it. A way to test it is put the transmission in forward gear then reverse if it makes a clunking sound then you have some wear somewhere. If you have another person put it in forward and reverse and watch the engine you can find where the noise is coming from. However I will see if it is listed as an after market part and give you a link that you can look at and the price for each. After looking at one of the mounts this may not be your problem here is the link and the price for one of the mounts.

Check your brake lights, if the system doesn't get a brake lights on signal it will not release park, it is called the park lock system.

I have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan that will not shift out of park. The shifter moves perfectly and it goes into Rev, nuet and drive perfectly but it will not release the park. What could cause that?

Do you feel the shifter click when shifting or is it smooth. Clicking would be an internal transmission problem. Smooth would be a broken shifter cable.

95 dodge caravan 3.0 litre stuck in park

if its parked on a slope, you will have to rock it while shifting out of park; you will need a helper(s) to unload the park sprag by rocking it at the same time you move the shifter. then repair, adjust, and/or use your parking brake.

Rapid clicking noise from driverside dash even after removing key dodge caravan

My 2008 dodge grand caravan does the same thing. I can unlock my doors and the clicking from the dashboard will start. I turn van on . (Engine is running) and nose gets louder and faster. It's almost like the shift lock is spazzing.out. I put.my hand on dash next to gear shifter and I can feel vibration from where noise is coming from. Also when I turn van off and get out if van. The noise of clicking keeps going. But than stops afterwhile..does.any dodge mechanic know what this is.?

1997 dodage grand caravan sport, when shifting from park to drive it makes a ticking noise, do you know what this could be? the car shifts fine and runs fine 126,000 miles.

The electronic shift solenoids in those transmissions make a ticking noise when shifting, same as when you slow down and stop, you will hear it as well, if it's quiet and your window is down. My guess is what your hearing is normal but if worried, stop at any reputable mechanic shop, or dealer and they will confirm it, free of charge.
