Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

2001 grand cherokee ltd completely lost power

Turned off engine and everything went "dead". no lights, no power to the door locks or windows. nothing would come on. couldn't use keyless entry. tried to start the vehicle and it was completely dead. When I turned the key in the ignition, there was absolutely no sound, no attempts at turnover, nothing. The interior lights were out, headlights wouldn't work...completely dead. Next morning, went out and everything was working just fine, just slight hesitation after starting, idled a little rough for a minute but never died.
Never had this happen before and have had the Jeep for 3 years.

The above mentioned jeep is mine,,

Thank you, I have checked the above mentioned jeep's battery connections and they look like new, clean and tight. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check the connections at the battery. Be sure they're clean and tight.

I would say that you need to replace the alternator. The car was running on the batteries power. When you drove the car, it ran the battery completely dead.

Windows will not work from drivers side master switch or the single door switches lock not working also remote mirrors dont 2001 jeep grand cherokee ltd

First thing to check is the fuses. Look underneath the drivers side steering wheel (to the left) for a covered fuse box. Remove the cover and find the fuse that controls the locks and windows and mirrors (two-three separate fuses) Pull them out "one by one" and see if they are burned out. If they are, replace them with the correct number fuse.If it is not the fuse, the door lock actuator has failed (for the door locks) or the master switch that controls the locks is bad. Go to your local junk yard and find a replacement for cheap

sounds like the actuator that locks it and unlocks it went dead. I would say u lost power to the actuator or the actuator itself is dead. Check your fuses first. It wont be cheap to fix, depending on where you go.

slide the rubber boot up and check the wires in the hinge of the doors. I will bet anything that the wires are broken. that was what was wrong with mine. just splice them back together and everything should work fine.

Guages when crazy. Now won't even try to start.

You likely have it repaired by now but it sounds like a classic case of oxidized battery or cable connection (sometimes mis-diagnosed as bad battery but cured with new (clean) battery)

Power windows dont work and dome light stays on

It has to be a broken wire! Initially, I lost the door locks & power to the windows ONLY when the drivers door was open. When I closed the door, the problem went away. Finally, I had the problem all the time. I checked for 12 vdc at the switch in the drivers door and there was NO POWER. In the rubber boot (between the car & door) I found the grey wire (with a pink stripe) was broken internally but the INSULATION WAS NOT!!!

Hi all,
suppose you have worked out your little problem. I have just been experiencing the same thing with my 2004 GC ltd. Windows, mirrors, etc not working and interior light staying on. Took it to the shop and they re soldered the wire (behind the door panel) that had come off. Cheap problem really.
