1997 GMC Jimmy SLS * * #4 Fuse (gage panel) keeps blowing. Replaced the battery, ingnition switch, alternator. There is a winding sound before it blows (was told its related to 4 wheel drive). Out of patience (&money). found one post that suggested the 4WD light indictor switch.

You mean drums? Depends on the vehicle options but should be rotors/pads. Easy to check - look through the wheel spokes and if pads, you should see the rotor.

4x4 97 jimmy... lots going on, tempature keeps going way up when it happens it will blow cold air, check gage light keeps going on, there is a noise like a hampster is on its wheel squeeky, wheel feels...

The first thing to check Amy is your coolant level under the hood. the temp is going up because of low coolant, the loss of heat is because its too low to circulate. with the engine running ,lift the hood and see if your sound is coming from a water pump or a pulley. The last thing is your dome light, it will be a door switch. try your passenger door and see if your light comes on.

(1997 GMC Jimmy) Battery will randomly go dead

I would check for a draw. You can do this by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery and hooking a test light from the cable to the battery. The light will be on if something is taking power off of the battery such as, dome light, glove box light, radio ect. make sure to have doors shut and everything off when you do this so it wont give you a false reading. If the light is on, you have a draw. if it is off you dont have a draw. Then from there you can figure out where the draw is coming from by opening the drivers door and accessing the fuse panel(OPENING THE DOOR WILL KEEP THE LIGHT ON BECAUSE IT WILL OPEN TH ECIRCUIT FOR THE DOME LIGHT, YOU CAN TAPE OR HOLD THE SWTICH INSIDE THE DOOR JAMB TO CLOSE THE CIRCUIT)when you access the fuse panel you can pull each fuse 1 at a time until the light goes off, when the light goes off. check what the fuse is for, that is where your draw is coming from. Common draws come from a faulty radio or glove box light stays on.

I had a similar problem several years ago on my 97 Jimmy. There is a switch in the steering column that had gone bad, had to be replaced and no problem since. The symptons sounded just like yours. My trusted mechanic found the problem after a lot of testing and fixed it.
