I'm not very familiar with those vehicles. However, generally speaking that era of automobiles used vacuum to "power" actuators inside the hvac system to open and close doors to redirect air to various openings in the dash. With no vacuum the default setting is usually the defroster and floor vents. Look for a broken or disconnected vacuum line in the engine compartment. It will originate from the firefall on the passenger side and likely go to a port on the intake manifold.

Why is air coming from all three areas (vents/floor/defrost) regardless of setting?

There is actually two blend door actuator that control the opening and closing of your vents. Ine is located under the drivers side dash board. The is on the passengers side. Both are electric and I didnt have the money to replace them so i removed them and turned it with a pliers to allow heat to come out of bothe sides of the vent. Then come summer flip the little bar back the other way to A/C
Hope this helps

Ac only comes out of defrost and floor vent, not dash

The ducts have dampers that work off of a vacuum and control the flow of air to the different air vents at the top, bottom and face of the dash. Sometimes the vacuum lines come loose or break. You'll need to look under the dash to see if any of these conditions exist.

vents in dash are not opening and closing properly. could be in switch panal and could be a vaccum leak in a line under the dash.

I cannot get any air, hot or cold, fresh or a/c, to come thru the vents in the dash. Floor vents and defrost are the only source of air flow. What now ???

Sounds like the lil motor on the bottom side vent is bad or else garbabe fell down defrost outlet and has the motor blocked from working..Take something like an screwdriver and work some of the junk out the bottom vent..Hope this helps...

Problem with air not coming out of vents.

Check for a vacum leak from the engine to the a/c.The color of the hose is black. Also check if the heater control valve hose is unplugged. If you have vacuum the it sounds like the door for the vent/floor/defrost is broken.

Pull the AC control in the dash and verify that there is vacuum going to it, all the different air diversion doors are operated by seperate vacuum motors controlled by the ac control head in the dash, as you switch it it sends vacuum to the correct location to work that door for the desired air outlet, dash, floor etc..
