Question about 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2 Answers

94 grand cherokee AC compressor on and off, mostly off.

94 grand cherokee AC compressor kicks on every 7 seconds or so, for only a second. Is it a switch of some sort or is the compressor shot?
No cold air, no apparent leaks in the system. It's as if it wants to run but something is confusing it.
Thanks much

Cool, thanks rockitman. I have a bottle of refrigerant and a pressure guage. When I tested the pressure at the line, it was already adequate. How can I proceed from there? Dump and fill? If dump, could you give a tip as to how? Sorry for the questions, but you just saved me alot of dough that I don't have...

Tha manual calls for R123 (or whatever) and so I picked some up. Got that covered, just not sure if I need to dump the old or just start filling, which doesn't seem correct.

IT WORKED IT WORKED!!! You guys rock. I just kept filling it unitl the compressor kicked on, then the compressor stayed on and i filled until the pressure came up and up (into a safe range) and coooool air was pumpin out. Now let's cross our fingers that it holds and no leaks appear. but still, at least the compressor works. thanks all. thanks thanks thanks.

Definitely sounds like its low on refrigerant. The compressor needs at least 2lbs of refrigerant to turn on. The bad news is your jeep most likely takes R-12 refrigerant which is very expensive and is no longer available over the counter but at a garage with AC recovery equipment. Checking the pressure in the line is the only way to confirm this. Best of luck to you on your problem.

To add refrigerant (R-134A) start the car, turn the A/C on HIGH, attach the can of refrigerant to the hose Do not puncture the can of refrigerant yet. Once the hose is connected at both ends, turn the screw to puncture the seal on the can of refrigerant. Gently move the can back and forth until all of the refrigerant is out of the can. Then disconnect hose from AC fitting. Frost should start to appear on the AC line and cold air should be coming out of the vent.

Fantastic! Glad it worked out. If it does run low again, there's a special can of R-134A with dye in it. You run it through your system and the dye will show you where the leak is. Way to go!

Neither,It is just low on refrigerant,It does this due to the pressure switch.Have the unit charged and it will be fine.

My pontiac vibe Ac has stopped working..it started taking a long time to kick in ...now it only kicks on for a short time if im lucky.

the clutch on the ac compressor is going out.

replace the ac compressor (when you push the a/c button it should imidiately kick the compressor on).

also check the connection on the compressor, along with the fuses.

It is not starting its like not catctching

94? I'd start looking towards a fuel pump. Listen for a 2 second buzz from the rear. If you don't hear it time to shop for a new fuel pump.P.S. Rarely is it a fuse.......

Air conditioner wont cool off.

While your hood is open and engine running can you hear the air conditioner compressor kick on and off as the engines idleing. Check the fuse for the ac unit. And worst case it could be your compressor witch can be pretty spendy.
