DIPSTICK IS HIDING UNDER A POWER STEERING HOSE ON THE DRIVERS' SIDE, NEAR THE BACK OF THE MOTOR. HE WILL NEED A LONG FUNNEL TO PUT TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE DIPSTICK TUBE. IF IT SAYS ADD, THEN ADD A PINT OF FLUID. HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR AN HONEST RATING. BEST OF LUCK. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA

How to fill the transmission fluid on 2003 volkswagen jetta

Locate the transmission dip stick. To check on levels start the engine and put into 'park'. let it run for a minute and now check the dip stick for levels. Additional fluid can be added via the dip stick tube. I recommend adding no more than half a litre at a time and then checking the level again; all the while the engine should be running whilst in 'park' is selected on the transmission.

How does one check the transmission fluid in this vehicle?

All the information is in the owners manual. The van needs to be on level ground. The trani fluid should be at operating temp. and either in park or neutral. With the van running, pull the dip-stick, wipe it off, stick it back in, pull it out again and look at where the fluid level is in reference to the full and add lines.
The type of fluid that needs to be added to the trani will be stamped into the dip-stick. If you don't see it then open the owners manual. Don't guess, it isn't just ATF any more.

After the engine has ran long anough to be at operating temp. Make sure the car is on level ground and with the engine running pull the dip stick, wipe it off ,put it back in and pull it back out and look for the fluid on the end of the stick to see if it's within the marks on the stick.

99 Subaru Forester Shift Linkage Problems?

Hello, since it is getting worse I would have to assume that your transmission fluid is getting dark in color and must be changed out. If you have already done this service, it will most likely be internal to the transmission. Like you said, it will probably need a rebuild. It is usually much easier and cheaper to buy a used one than to rebuild one. Just in case you don't know where the trans fluid dip stick is, it's located between the air box mounted on the throttle body and the brake fluid reservoir. You will have to look down below all the hoses and cables to see the yellow or possibly red dip stick handle. The fluid should look clear and reddish pink. If it is brown like engine oil or black I would recommend going to an independant shop which has the means to flush the transmission fully. I hope this info helps...(subytech1)...
