Question about 2001 Volvo S60

1 Answer

My emisson control system light came on after I put in a few gallons of gas, this happened once before and I was told it was the fuel. Should I be concerned or will the light go off. I have a 600 mi

I have a Volvo S60 that has been running fine, it is time for an oil change, but I just put in 6 gallons of gas and now it says emission system service required. This happened another time and I was told it was just bad gas is it a concern.

The gas cap is considered part of the emission service and most times a light right after filling the tank is an indication that the gas wasn't replaced tightly. I'd check the gas cap prior to investigating further.

if you always put as much gas as you can especially when its cheaper you are probably getting fuel into the fume emissions part of the entire fuel system. see if you can find a diagram of your fuel tank system to be sure its vacuum and not fuel. don't top off . its the worst thing to a fuel system

The gas is not the problem. You have problems with the engine and related control system.

2006 Saturn vue, 4 cylinder. Ran out of gas, couple gallons put in, ran fine. Went to gas station filled up full. Driving home, noticed my reduced power indicator flashed a few times on then off. Once...

reduced power , electronic throttle control problem . Reduced Engine Power Mode
When the ECM detects a condition with the TAC system, the ECM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
• Acceleration limiting--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.
• Limited throttle mode--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
• Throttle default mode--The ECM will turn off the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
• Forced idle mode--The ECM will perform the following actions:
- Limit engine speed to idle by positioning the throttle position, or by controlling the fuel and spark if the throttle is turned off.
- Ignore the accelerator pedal input.
• Engine shutdown mode--The ECM will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

Bronco II fuel injector back fires and rpm go down then back up?

You may have a failing fuel pump, the symptoms are that of low fuel pressure. The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank, the gas tank must be removed to access the pump for renewal. Remember to replace the filter and be careful not to create sparks and blow yourself up, seen it happen first hand.

My 1989 GMC suburban died while driving and would not restart. I believe I ran out of gas but she won't fire up even after I put 4-5 gallons in her. When she quit, she chuffed once and sounded like a cough...

sounds like air might be trapped in the fuel lines try turning the key on for a few seconds to let the pump prime the system and shut it off do it a few times

Engine ligh is on, Overdrive light blinks on

check if you use e-mix fuel
if that is the case , put a bottle of methylated sprirts in the fuel tank to mix with the water from the e-mix fuel and then after running the fuel out, refill with normal fuel and a quality injector cleaner

2002 lincoln navigater wont start

first take the gas cap off for a few minutes and where the hole is to put the gas into the tank open that up with a screw driver for a few minutes and once the car starts put in a half a tank of gas in it and a bottle of STP gas treatment with fuel injector cleaner and a little more gas and if this helps you should be good and you may have to replace the fuel filter if it does not open it all the way be sure to put the gas cap back on after truck starts

Fuel Gauge reads empty, but tank IS full

the float in your gas tank seems to have water in it....water is heavier than gas, that's why gas floats on top of water....try putting something like HEAT in it to dry up the water in your tank....

2004 nissan titan...ran out of gas

Good chance that even on 4 gallons it may not start I would try for more, prime the fuel pump several times by turning the key on and leaving it on for around 5 seconds then shutting it off and repeating, obviously not trying to start. I've had cases where even small FWD cars won't start even on 4 gallons on a 12 gallon tank. The newer fuel pumps are a closed system that only allow a small portion of fuel into the pump housing to keep contamination down. Let me know if after adding a few more gallons it won't start we will trouble shoot from there. Thank you for using fixya.com
