The refrigerant may be low, also could be that the a/c compressor is going out. Have it checked

Why does my 2005 monte carlo idle high at stop signs/stop lights but not when i start it only when driving then when i shut the car off and start it again the idle is normal

check if the condition occurs when you have your foot on the brake at stop signs-stop lights. It may be an air leak in the brake booster that is allowing air into the manifold and altering the mixture to lean.

I have a 2004 chevy cavalier, 1st problem when stopped at a red light with a/c on the temp. goes up and a/c starts to blow warm air and car runs sluggish. Like it wants to stall. When driving everything...

first problem is simply your radiator cooling fans (there tow of them) are not working my be due to a fuse and/or relay those fans are turning with ac on even if your car is cold and turns when radiator gots hot even if ac is off
so when your car is hot open the hood and just take a look are they running or not they just in front of radiator

When my 2005 chevy cavelier is idling (at stop lights, sitting in park, etc) where should the rpms be? I have a friend saying my rpms are too low when idling. Right now they are between 0 and 1. Thanks

Idle in park: 800-1100RPM is acceptable.
In drive: about 700RPM
Your idle speed is actually controlled by the idle air control motor also called the IAC. There isn't any idle adjustment you can manually set as the motor is fuel injected and EEC controls air and fuel mixture at idle.

Overheating Engine

your low on coolant. if you just worked on cooling system i.e. replaced hoses or water pump there is a air bubble trapped in it. You need to burp the air out at cap or stat or both. water pump, can't pump air so when you drive the coolant moves away from pump. IF it over heats while idling not moving you prob. have a bad fan. Think they are electric on this car.

Air conditioner runs hot after a few minutes sitting idle. get cold while driving but goes hot after i stop or come to a red light

Check the belt that is attached to the alternator make sure its not loose. If that's fine then you may be low on freon refrigerant. Have someone check the pressure levels in the high and low side of your system.

Car will start fine but will shut off as soon as I place in gear.

Here are the most common causes of surges, stalls at stops, low erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
