Question about 2003 Nissan Altima

2 Answers

I have a 2003 nissan altima 2.5S and it just died on me. Its been cutting off frequently and not wanting to start back up, I think its not getting fuel but Im not sure..I tried getting a jump but that didnt work and all my accessories and lights work fine..so i dont thinks its the battery. Any ideas?? Im thinking fuel system, but I did read about a recall on the camshaft and crankshaft sensors, does that apply to my vehicle and will they cause these kinds of problems?..{i.e. no starts}

    I'm having the same problem as bgpmpin56's. Could the problem be a failing fuel pump?

It won't get fuel if the crank angle sensor goes out, because that's what triggers the fuel pump, once the ECM gets an input from this sensor it starts the fuel pump which will then allow the car to start. I know a crank angle sensor will kill one of these cars, I think think cam position sensor will just make one run like **** but I could be wrong. One of these sensors is sensors are your problem I'm leaning towards the crank angle sensor though.

I have a 2003 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE as well, and Im having the same issue, but when that happen I just disconnect the battery for 1 or 2 minutes to reset the computer, when I plug it back in, the car start just fine. Now, apparently yes, this has something to do with the camshaft and crankshaft sensors. Try disconecting the battery, it will work, but be carefull, you may damage the 100AMP fuse, the one located in the positive battery conector, and then it will not work, not even the lights.

SOURCE: sensor recalls for 03 nissan altima

No recall information on that situation at this time. if you suspect this, you can contact the dealer and provide your vin and they can look up a new or non released recall for your vehicle. If this recall has just been released, it will take some time to circulate though the recall system. at this time, nothing is showing up on our systems on a recall for the crank and cam sensors.

Have you checked your "knock sensor" or cam sensor? It tracks cam and or crank movement for timing.

My car stop frequently

I had a similar problem. The 2003 altima has a recall for the camshaft position sensor and crankshaft sensor. I replaced them and got the recall fixed. The dealer has to reprogram the computer.
