Ive seen this before with a 1991 F-150 5.0 litre,so i will tell you what ive experienced and let you decide what to do..the idle air bypass solenoid gets built up with carbon and it runs out of the air mixture.take it out and clean it with carb cleaner, incase you dont know what it looks like its round like an electric motor with a square plate hooked to it with the corners cut off,and it hooks to the throttle body. And ive seen the fuel regulator go bad as well..

My 1989 f150 acts like it gets no gas. which fuel pump is bad?

you have to run on the front pump for a while to see if it acts up then and if not do the same with the rear . if it does the same on both then replace your fuel filter and if still no change , change the pump or pumps. These pumps are well known for going out at the same time

My 1988 Ford F150 4X4 5.8L with duel tanks runs for about 10 mins then acts like it runs out of fuel and wont start back up. Ive replaced the fuel filters and the in-line fuel pump, pressure release valve...

With 2 tanks have you a balance pipe between tanks or a 2 way tap. IT sponds as if there is a low pressure problem ( vacuum) occuring as the pump draws out fuel and as atmospheric pressure is needed to push fuel to the pump the pump will not be able to keep up pressure . Check for correct fuel cap on both tanks and a balance tube between tanks to allow air to keep the pressure equal in the tanks

the filter(s) should be under the truck along the frame rail towards the rear but in front of the tanks

Does my 1989 f-150 xlt have 1 r 2 fuel filters, it has duel tanks

It only has 1 fuel filter. it is located on the driver's side by the front tire on the inside of the chassis. Make sure you relieve any fuel pressure before changing it

Truck acts like it is running out of gas? Replaced fuel filter. Ran fine for awhile but now still acts like it is starving for fuel.

my '93 f-250 (4.9L) stopped running while driving, now it acts like it isn't getting any fuel. Tried switching tanks, but still does the same. What would be the problem.

Front fuel tank will not work

You have duel tanks with a fuel pump in each tank. You also have a fuel pump on the frame rail after the "tank selector". This device only holds a fuel filter that protects the main fuel pump. When you select front or rear tank on the dash, you are selecting which in tank fuel pump will operate. You can check the in tank fuel pump by listening for it to "humm" when the key is turned on..The in tank pumps only feed the main pump and cannot run the engine on their own. Hope this helps

Fuel pumps will not run!

Hey lets try this ! Locate your starter solenoid & look for a yellow wire marked with a "W" . That may be the fusible link for fuel pump. Let me know what you find.

1992 ford f150 duel tank problem, hard to start

The tanks have to be removed in order to change the fuel float sensors.

The hard to start issue could be related to a fuel filter that is full of sediment. The fuel filter could be in the engine compartment before the intake to the engine, but it is more likely an inline filter after the fuel pump on the frame rail. Change the filter and see if that help.
